I think you said it all. Its good that the cops are going after the guys who are trying to purchase services from girls who are underage. That is not right at all , they have to know that they could be potentially walking into a police sting? Unless they are just that naiive and are hoping to get their "fix" .
It's sad what the cop said about the supply and demand dynamic, that if it wasn't for the demand, there wouldn't be a need on the supply end. Kudos to them for going at this problem from both sides of the issue.
I agree they need to stop the hunt for underage but don't be surprised if these stings slowly cross over into consenting adults if a new right wing government were to win in the next election. I don't believe there are many underage escorts providing services in North America as media likes to portray.
I don't even get how the police bring this up. "Yeah, so, I'm 17, is that okay with you?" I mean, I find these people deplorable, but who would be stupid enough to say yes to that question?

They should have just kept the sting going all year around rather than report it, there is always more out there and this tactic won't be as effective anymore.

This is quite an assumption. Is it backed up by any evidence or stats? Hopefully you are right, but these types of stings are a real good reason to stick with reputable agencies like Mirage, Jersey Girls, and Toronto Girlfriends, etc., and just avoid Backpage and Indy's altogether.
Obviously, men who want to purchase underage minors for sex deserve to be arrested. But I suspect the police are happy to also charge men who seek the services of 18+ as well. As long as they meet their quota, just like speeding tickets.

Just do the same setup as they did. Put up a backpage ad and just sit and wait, while the guys come falling into the trap. It's very easy work, which the police love. Actually going after gangs that are trafficking women is hard work and possibly dangerous, we wouldn't want our police getting involved with that.

LE has been going after human trafficking for years, all along the 401 corridor. In talking with LE friends and some working girls, LE has visited many an independent by booking an appointment, without her knowledge that they were LE. A couple of officers would then visit with her and ask her set questions, wanting to know if she's doing this willingly and if anyone is running her. They don't care if a lady is doing so willingly, they care about the ones that are being run by some scumbag. Most girls are too scared to rat their pimp out though, but at least LE get some intel to track these assholes through their girls.
So you assumption that it's too dangerous and too much work for them is ludicrous, as they have been doing this for years. You also need to catch the news, because they have busted many of these assholes who traffic girls over the past number of years,
