I was disappointed with the Shamrock fight..... but Ken looked good til he fell.
I was not so sure on the Forrest win but it was close and they both deserved the contract for sure.
When i was wrestling in University i beat Dan Severen while he wrestled for the Sunkist Kids. My other claim to fame was i beat the crap out of Dino Ciccerelli when he was a London Knight :p

Shamrock

I can't help but think that Ken had some kind of a traction problem. He slipped twice in one round, and slipped badly too. The first time, he didn't come off so bad, but I can't understand why he'd try a headkick so soon after losing his footing once. Bad decision, I think, and it cost him. You can't fall on your back twice in a round in MMA and expect to get away with it, no matter how good you are.

As a ex kickboxer I'll tell ya why he fell, twice.... Ken can't kick....
He has no fourm what so ever and because of that he has no balance or power when he kicks. I don't think it was much a "slip" as it was poor technique. When he "tried" to deliver the kick with his right leg his left heel was not rotated 180 degrees which will not only screw your balance up but they'll be no power and if your opponnet was to even tap you anywhere you'll fall so fast you woundnt know what happened.

Ken is a legend in the UFC but he shouldnt try to kick, especially higher then the guys hamstring... I guess with all the pressure of being a "complete fighter" he tried to study some kicking techniques but you can tell he didnt study for long cause he has no form or flexibility in his legs.

Ken did become a much better puncher though and I think if he didnt try to kick up high he might of knocked Rick out..

By the way I think Bonner won the fight since he did more damage to Forrest (bloody face and all) It was a close fight cause Forrest wouldnt go down but he took way more shots then Bonner did.

One of the best UFC fights I've ever seen......

Dammn, I thought Bobby was the best heavyweight in the group since he had the best knockout punch... I was wrong, if he couldnt even take out Sam he sucks...

Ken Shamrock

he lost.....but he look good for a guy 41 years of age (wonder what the outcome would have been if he hadn't try those high kicks)

Diego Sanchez: what a lethal guy

Forest Griffin : he did bleed but i thought he won the fight nevertheless (it was close though)

ohhh yeah and I beat Willie Nelson for my claim to fame

I'm glad he lost though, the guy had a big mouth and on top of everything said he was going to retire Sam lol.

I can't believe Bobby was disrespectful to Dana White the guy who 's gave him the opportunity.

the world's most overated man

shamrock is a senior citizen at this point. at 41, u may be able to compete in baseball, but in the UFC? are you kidding me? i'm not a big fan of UFC but i did the catch fight and expected ken to put up a decent performance against this inexperienced guy, but boy saying he was a dissapointment is a severe understatment. sure, he slipped...twice...but he didn't even try to defend himself at all. that's a sure sign that he should have retired immediately after that match.

as i said, i don't pay much attention to the sport, so maybe someone can answer this for me. i'm curious to know how good was shamrock back in his prime? he's the poster boy of the sport, but how does he really stack up against the best of all time?

He IS the best of all time there is a reason why he entered the Guiness Book of World Records as "the World's Most Dangerous Man"...but I will let you figure that one out for yourself

Shamrock's loss was strange

Hey Guys, there are rumours that Shamrock fight was fixed-that he intentionally lost. The second slip was very strange. I saw it in slow motion and I don't think I've every seen anybody fall like that before. After Shamrock falls Franklin starts raining down blows. However Ken doesn't even counter by either change in body position(rolling, bridging etc.) or striking back. He just holds up his hands in front of him and allows Franklin to hit him until a referee stoppage. This I find extremely uncharacteristic of Ken.

I've followed Ken's career for a long time and even when he is being hit with tremendous shots(ie. Ortiz, Frye) the warrior that he is he just keeps on coming back. That's why I found the way that he lost against Franklin rather peculiar. What do you guys think. Oh yeah and the second fight between Bonnar and Griffin had to be one of the most exciting and entertaining match in mixed martial arts history!

Ken is a submission fighter and although his standup game has improved as of late, submissions are his thing. My opinion is he was trying to prove that he is an all around fighter for the national tv audience. In hindsight the attempted high kick was a mistake. He should have kept it simple and just did what he does best. I might be wrong on this one but I was wondering if when he fell maybe he stunned himself and that's why he was able to obtain a propper defensive position on the ground.

Well I started watching the UFC since the begining and I'd say watched the first 10 ufc's or so. Shamrock has been there since day 1 and has a all time record of 26-9-2 w/l/d in UFC and Pancrase. From the looks of his record he's fought just about every great fighter on the planet and has beat most of them. I remember in UFC 6 he chocked out Dan Severn in about 2 min with a guillotine choke which was pretty impressive. Ken isnt my favorite in UFC of all time but I have to give him props for fighting anyone and winning most of the time. Is he the best of all time?? I'd have to sayy yes.

My fav of all time would have to be Royce G and second fav is Oleg Taktarov..

Shamrocks record......

Like the fight between Bobby Southworth and Bonner (I think Bobby won) judges give points to the fighter that looks like the aggressor. Forrests constant knee attempts in the clinches and two takedowns gave him that edge on points.

Awesome fight between the two tho

I 100% agree wit u Jenn, I think Bonner won the fight also. He did more damage and hardly backed up the whole fight. He jabbed, kneed and punched Forrest with more accurate shots then Forrest did. Forrest fought with his heart on his sleave but I think he lost. It's all good though cause they both got contracts.

IMO Dana had to give both fighters contracts cause they single handedly made that night a success for the UFC. The UFC must'ov gained more new commers to the sport in that single night then the last 2+ years combined...am I right?

Like I said before that was the best UFC fight I've seen.

I think Forest won the fight (yes he bled) but if you followed the show you would have known that he was cut in a previous fight and he was told that it was almost sure that the cut will re-open if punched again
Actually Forrest's first cut was on the eyebrow.. In the finals he bled from his nose. The cut above his eye didnt even open back up.

Dats one tuff redneck

from that single fight alone, i also agree that bonner looked like the more dominant fighter and deserved to win. but having said that, that fight was the finals of a long competition for the ultimate fighter. so when a potential draw occuring, they probably gave some points for what the fighters had done up leading up to the fight.

i also agree it was exciting to watch, but it turned into strictly a boxing match. while watching it i couldn't help but think that a real boxer would have destroyed them. i would have liked to see some versitily like a few leg strikes to demonstrate that it takes more than a good boxer to be the ultimate fighter.
