The best place to start in the UK for independents is probably Adultwork - easy to use. However, as always, you need to be sensible. I haven't used agencies but there are a number who can be found with reviews via the punting review sites in the UK. London isn't the ideal place for that; take the opportunity to visit the Christmas markets (if you're in the meantime) and some museums. The girls there are expensive.
