UFC 77 - Anyone care?

I am driving down to Cincinnati for UFC 77 on the weekend. It is a somewhat lame card, but the appeal of a budget-pricing UFC within easy driving distance is too much to ignore. My research reveals that Cincinnati is about as boring a town as you can find, with nothing much to do. Is anyone else going? Is anyone even going to watch the pay-per-view? It seems that UFC might be losing some momentum lately?

I'll watch it at the local sports bar here in T.O. Even the lame events I watch cause its still entertaining. Spider vs Rich II should be alright. Could go either way since Rich will want revenge and can rock Spider if he tags him.

Say hi to Herb Tarlek, Les Nessman and that office slut Jennifer Marlowe for me whiles your there...lol:D

Still gonna watch it even though its pretty weak....
I'm a MMA fan for life....

Silva vs Franklin should be interesting....Silva is on a tear...Only hope for Franklin is to Lay N Pray....He can't outstrike Silva and he can't submit him....But then again...Anything can happen - especially this year which should be called the "Year of the Upsets" or "Year of the Underdog".....

The Vera versus Sylvia fight as well.....Sylvia should be a pretty good "Gatekeeper" for Vera....See if Vera deserves all the hype....

Okami versus Macdonald will be another interesting fight...Okami should tear into Macdonald...

Anybody watch the K-1 Max Grand Prix Finals?
Now that was an amazing tournament.....One of the best stand up (kickboxing) tournaments ever.....

Hope you have a great time there, I'd love to see it live.
Thanks. Have you seen one live before? I have been to a couple, in terms of actually seeing the fights, it is better on TV. Live your view is blocked by the cage, the cameramen, and bad angles. But the atmosphere is great, lots of sneering tough-guys and stripper-look women, lots of posturing and trash-talking. I enjoy them.

Heard there are a lot of dumb fucks at those events (though it is obvious even on tv as well)....

Some guy on Sherdog (MMA forum) said at one of the UFC events (not in Vegas) some of the fans were calling Anderson Silva a the "N" word.....

Security should have thrown those guys in the ring with Anderson....They'll change their tune pretty quick....

I'll be watching at a bar. The card isn't as bad as many are making it out to be. There's playing a pretty interesting angle on Silva/Franklin in the homefield advantage/struggle for redemption/failure = loss of career standpoint. Should make for drama, win or lose.

I wish they'd stop signing Tim Sylvia. I know he's the former champ, I know he's got a following (or does he?), I just wish the heavyweight division had more depth so he'd appear less frequently. The guy is lackluster, lately more often than not goes to decision, and while powerful, I just hate his technique. I'm really going for Vera.

I'm interested to see Khalib Starnes, because he is a cool cat. Okami will be fun to watch too.

The card isn't as bad as some former shows, and I'm actually really looking forward to seeing if Silva rearranges Franklin's nose again

I think if Sylvia doesn't make this fight interesting he'll be done with the UFC.....
If he wins or loses and makes it a boring fight....His days as a UFC fighter are numbered....
If he wins or loses and at least makes it entertaining....He might become the "GateKeeper" for "Up & Coming" fighters (or recently signed fighter) moving up to the elite ranks of the Heavyweight Division....

I think Dana White knows most fans can't stand Tim Sylvia and plodding styles and tactics - Sylvia is the worst type of fighter who fights no to lose and doesn't fight to win....If he can't draw the fans he's of no use to the UFC organization....

Yes, that is true. The first one I went to was Ortiz-Shamrock II. A guys in front of me was going crazy, screaming at Shamrock, "Shamrock, you suck, you are fucking faggot, I fucking hate you" on and on. I noticed that Shamrock was not even in the arena yet, he was screaming at Shamrock on the Jumbotron. At both that I went to they sell beer to the crowd - in glass bottles. At ACC they will not even give you a top for your plastic bottle in case you throw it, but at a UFC in Vegas you can get alcohol along with a deadly weapon. I only saw one throwing incident, and they threw him out.

Don't worry BK, I will write a full review.

Best UFC card I've seen in a long, long time. Lots of interesting fights, a sub, a cut, a ko, a tko, and cool scrambles in the gurgel match.

It didn't look great on paper, but boy am I glad I went to see it.

Sadly, Sylvia's fight was the long, boring 'whole lot of nothing' exhibition I was anticipating. I mean, it was 13.5 minutes of clinch, 15 seconds of crazy kicks at the end of the second, and a bunch of arm punches/elbows for the remainder of the time.

The only real consolation is that I get to look forward to Sylvia getting handled by Noguiera a couple months down the road.

It was a pretty weak UFC....My friends thought so too....

Vera was a disappointment....I guess he was all hype...
Should have kept his distance....Circled and thrown leg kicks...Instead he kept moving into Sylvia and getting caught in the clinch...

Anderson just toyed with Franklin....A spin kick, flying knees, matrix style head movement....Anderson's actions pretty much said he wasn't a little bit worried about Franklin....Didn't even throw any jabs or leg kicks....
Silva could have probably finished the fight in the first round (maybe he had money on it)....The only bright note for Franklin is that his "clinching" did look a little better (though that's not saying much) and he didn't get his nose fucked up....
The "Spider" is definitly proved that he is the most exciting fighter to watch in the UFC.....

Actually I think he was rushed to the hospital with a broken nose....again
These two should never fight again. Maybe Rich should step up in weight OR retire altogether. I give him props though for getting back in the octagon with spider, lord knows I wouldnt:(

Franklin did have one hell of a cut on the bridge of his nose.

Vera broke his hand in the first round. The most exciting part of the fight was when Vera kicked Sylvia 3 times in quick succession.

Khalib Starnes had a cut so big on his head, the fight was stopped because the doctor "could see his skull"

Yeah, he looks pretty unstoppable right now. Rich was knocked out at the bell in the first and everyone knew he was just going to get slaughtered in Rd 2. Man, Anderson's striking is a thing of beauty.

Who should Anderson fight? Simple, Dan Henderson. But against Anderson Silva? I'd put my money on Henderson.
You've got to be kidding. Your going to lose a lot of money.

Anderson Silva is now "pound-for-pound" the best in worldwide MMA.
Muay-Thai + Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu + athleticism = Can't be beat anyday soon

Dan Henderson? Please get a grip.

In regards to Silva and his showboating....I don't mind it....Silva likes to put on a show and will take risks in order to keep the fans entertained...

I would be more put off from Silva if he was a braggart and talked shit like most of the American UFC fighters.....Instead he's humble and pretty modest about his wins (at least according to his interpeter....);)

Henderson would be a great match up against Silva....As would Paolo Filho....

Denis Kang and Mat Lindland would also be good match-ups.....though Henderson and Filho definitely have the best chance of defeating the champ....

Only thing is that Henderson wants to stay in Light Heavyweight....Apparently Dana White has stated he pleaded with Hendo to go down to Middleweight but Hendo is determined to keep fighting as a LHW.....
And Filho is stuck in the WEC....and he may not want to fight Silva since they used to train together at Brazilian Top Team.....

Not entirely convinced that Hendo would win....but Silva wouldn't walk through Henderson like he did with the other UFC fighters....

Henderson has Olympic Class Wrestling Abilities....And he's extremely strong....And he's got a solid chin (never been knocked out in his 28 fights).....Strong in the clinch and with takedowns

His drawbacks are that his striking isn't crisp (not very techincal at all actually) and he doesn't throw and kicks...Not really a submisssion artist....If he won it would be through Grouding and Pounding....
Also he has been known to gas out...though he did okay in the Rampage fight...
