Hughes is as strong as an ox but I'm going with Penn - better strikes and subs
I think one of the biggest factors on the upcoming fight will be Penn's conditioning....

If BJ gasses out, Hughes will eat him alive....

They both suck. Why isn't George St Pierre fighting? Did he get hurt? He will be the next welterweight champ. Bring that belt up north,

George and Penn are my two favourite UFC fighters and while George won the last fight, he also came out of it in the worse shape. Penn is one of the most natural fighters out there. Smart, extremely flexible, heavy hands. Unfortunately, he likes drinking and eating too much and is not always motivated.

yeah, but he got a finger in the eye. That was a long fight, it was not pretty but he dominated penn. He has matured alot since the hughes loss. He looks like he is in better shape compared to penn. Hughes has the advantage because he is part of the militech camp. But George will have the next title fight.

Hughes are you f'in kidding!?!!
Hughes has this silent confidence about him.
He's got this nerdy look to him, then WHAM, once in the ring, forget it. Unreal.

I only wish this was GSP vs Matt...Too bad our fellow Canadian got hurt while training for his original match for this PPV(GSP vs Matt)..

However with that said, I do think this will be a great match...BJ Penn is an awesome fight...That fight between him and GSP a couple months ago was awesome...

No real support here for Matt Hughes eh?

I think the guy is a sick fighter...How can someone say his submissions aren't on par with BJ's LOL....BJ isn't that great with submissions...He will have better strikes but at the same time he will have an experience and strength disadvantage...Hughes right now is in his prime...Its like Chuck Lidell with Hughes and how he parades his confidence based on his title...It actually lets them both up their games and egos with it...

Hughes to win this one I think

I would rather see george st pierre fight hughs and take away the belt from him. George has a crazy training schedule. He looks really good. Penn did not look to healthy the last fight. He should look better at 62. It was funny watching penn in the pre fight interview talking shit about George st Pierre.
It was even better watching them lift GSP's arm in victory.

When Hughes and Penn first fought.....Penn's submission skills were definitly at least a few levels above....
The last two years or so, Hughes has been working on his submissions and how Penn and Hughes compare currently in that aspect of MMA is hard to say.....

Guess we will find out at then end of the month....

I think Hughes will dominate BJ...unless some miracle happened between Bj's last fight to this fight. From what i've been reading, it looksl ike BJ actually believes that his natural ability as a fighter will be enough to beat Hughes...I think he's sadly mistaken. If BJ wins, it'll be due to something circumstantial that happens in there, with lots of luck involved. My prediction: Hughes wins in late round 1 or early round 2, via TKO due to strikes.

Even though Hughes is older than Penn, I see Hughes as the present, and Penn as the past... but who knows.. super excited for tonight!!

Well considering BJ took the fight on short notice I think he did pretty well. The main concern for BJ was that the longer the fight went on the more advantage Hughes would have. In the first two rounds when both fighters were at relatively full energy, BJ was giving Hughes a very hard fight. BJ was impossible to take down, and really had some pretty good shots against Hughes. Even when Hughes did take down BJ, he almost had him in submission. I think if BJ had more time to train, and get to the same fight ready status as Hughes is in, the fight would have been better. All I know is that Hughes is not unbeatable.

Man, I'm still depressed and can't sleep properly because of this. Pulver losing? Loiseau losing? And of course, Penn, one of my favourite fighters, dominating and gassing out again and being tko'd for the first time. He's got more skills than just about anyone, but lately he just gasses. It's really frustrating. In just about all his losses, the argument can be made that he lost the fight rather than his opponent winning the fight. His cardio was never really the best, but I think fighting at WW didn't help either. Matt probably had a 15 to 20 pound advantage come fight time and for anyone that's ever wrestled or fought, that advantage is huge.

Oh well, props to Matt. Can't wait for Matt vs GSP and win or lose, I'd like to see the rubber match between BJ and Matt.

No excuses for BJ, he was training and training and training and well, you get the picture. He was talking smack, talking up his training and how he will hand it to Matt. The real Ultimate Fighter came out on top last night. :)
