Opera bug

Found this on the Ubuntu Forums awhile back.

Opera for some reason can cause CPU usage to spike to 100% making Ubuntu unresponsive and locking up.

What they recommend when this happens:

At the Top click on System>Administration>System Monitor>Resources.
If your CPU History is pegged at 100% Opera is probably the problem.

If this is the case:

Click on Processes

Then scroll down to Opera, then right click Opera and from the dropdown click 'kill process'.

That will shut down Opera and relieve the 100% CPU spike.
Then restart Opera and Opera will auto take you back to where you were last working with all tabs saved. Some websites cause this spike with Opera, so watch for this. If it is the website shut off the offending tab in Opera before it fully loads and you should be good to go.

This Opera bug started in Intrepid Ibex and seems to have carried over to Jaunty. Opera is said to be 'working' on it.

This same procedure can be used if you suspect some other app is causing a CPU spike resulting in a freeze/lockup or big slow down in system responsiveness.

I thought it was Opera only so I tried an experiment, I logged into Ubuntu and left my computer for a few minutes, came back and the same was happening the keyobard had locked up and the scroll lock button was flashing again!! time to pull the plug on Ubuntu completely this time, it just doesnt seem to be the promised land that its made out to be.

Never heard of that one but strange things can happen.
Sometimes the Forums can correct it sometimes they can't.

There so many variables at play.
