Each PC may act a little different

I have the cool dual booted version of 8.04, that did the dual boot for me. Do I boot my system up in Ubuntu to install, or do I boot up in XP and install?
Thanks, total novice!!
I saw a difference in the Ubuntu install, when using XP and then Vista.
When doing a dual boot setup, it's best to have Windows already on your PC then add Ubuntu. The GRUB bootloader Ubuntu uses works best this way.
I assume you have a dual boot XP/Ubuntu 8.04 and want to upgrade to XP/Ubuntu 8.10.
I put the Ubuntu Live CD in, then rebooted into XP.
Once the PC started you go into the Ubuntu demo unless it autoruns into Ubuntu Demo. From there you go into 'install Ubuntu'. It will give you the choices from wiping out everything and just putting in Ubuntu or doing a dual boot setup. If you want to keep your dual boot select 'manual' when you get to the partition section. Manual will show you the various partitons in your HDD. Since you already have 8.04 installed, select that linux partition and Ubuntu will format that linux partition and install 8.10 in that same linux partition where 8.04 is now, leaving the rest of your HDD with XP untouched.
You will also be given a choice to do a clean install or to import your old settings over from XP or 8.04 to this new 8.10 install. The choice is yours. Once you make your selections Ubuntu will take over and install 8.10. All my installs so far have been flawless. Once the install is complete all that's left is to install all the 8.10 updates and you're good to go.
