Anyone do Uber?

I don't have a car and I planning to rent from Uber to drive.

1. Is the Uber rental program in Toronto worth it? Are gas vehicles available (I prefer these over EVs).
2. How much is the rental cost? - For both gas and EVs?
3. Does Hertz have EVs as well as gas vehicles to rent for Uber?
4. How much do you reasonably make in 7 days driving 10 to 12 hours per day?
5. Do I need a PTC license? Do I need to complete the training and upload that proof on the driver app, and uber automatically apply for my license? How long does this take?

Anyone know about these?

Hey - I used to do Uber 2 years ago (did it for total of 5 years). See my answers below, but keep in mind that things might have slightly changed in the last 2 years.

1. Is the Uber rental program in Toronto worth it? Are gas vehicles available (I prefer these over EVs).
- Depends. If you are planning to do it FT, it will be cheaper to buy a used vehicle (that fits within Uber requirements). Otherwise if you are planning to do PT, programs like Autzu are not bad (you rent a car by the hour)

2. How much is the rental cost? - For both gas and EVs?
- You would need to do this research on your own. A lot of traditional car rental companies do not allow their vehicles to be used for ride share.

3. Does Hertz have EVs as well as gas vehicles to rent for Uber?
- Yes they do. 2 years ago Hertz prohibited use of their vehicles for ride share. I do not know if their policies have changed since.

4. How much do you reasonably make in 7 days driving 10 to 12 hours per day?
- When I first started Uber, you could easily make $600-800 / per ~8 hour shift. You obviously have to pick the right times to work (surge, commuter hours etc). The reason I quit Uber is because there are so many drivers on the platfrom now, I was averaging $250-300 / per ~ 8 hour shift. After taking out expenses, weird work schedule etc it just became not worth it.

5. Do I need a PTC license? Do I need to complete the training and upload that proof on the driver app, and uber automatically apply for my license? How long does this take?
- Not sure if the process is different now, but previously Uber submitted PTC license for you and you would need to do the training on your own. Roughly around a week.

My recommendation is do your research into costs of renting a vehicle / legality around it. You ultimately do not want to rent a vehicle and secretly use it for ride hailing as if anything happens, the company can deep your insurance null and you would be on the hook for everything.

Consider your costs then and if they make sense, go to the closest. UberHub and they will help with the rest.

Just don't expect Uber to be an easy way to make cash.

Would you not make more money doing UberEats?
Traditionally, you get tips based on order size, about 5%-15%.
I use to deliver pizza in high school and tips, like all in the hospitality industry, is where you make your money.

I do not take Ubers and I have not used public transportation in over 20 years. I trade on the stock market so I have to watch the economy very carefully. The car market is a good indicator of the economy so I follow the news for the industry. The used car market is getting flooded with used and repossessed cars. The banks anticipate that the problem will get worse in the next 3 years. Banks are not lending as easily these days and are careful not to lend to Uber drivers. Insurance companies will not pay out if they discover your car was used as an Uber, if they do insure you they will want additional premiums.
