How does one address this eye-opening disparity that I heard today.

The U.S. has 4.25% of the world's population.

The U.S. has almost 30% of the world's Covid cases.

I am not sure if Dr. Fauci was being coy because he has to work with trump, but when asked if this was due to the late start of taking action by the administration, all he said was that the reason for the disparity is multifactorial and is not the result of one action. He did specify any of the other factors.

What other reasons would come into play for such a disproportionate number of cases in the U.S.? Hoping to hear a rational, unbiased discussion from both sides.

I know the righties do not like dealing with situations like this because it is easy to put this on the prez, and then they have to defend. But this is reality. It is not TDS. It is not left wing media. It is not a matter of opinion. It is a cold hard fact. The numbers cannot be disputed. How can this be accounted for?

Is it a result of flaws in their health care system (if so what aspects?), is it a lack of preparation in terms of not having resources in place in advance to be able to attack the problem ASAP, was it dithering by the prez in terms of initially downplaying the epidemic or ordering manufactures to produce equipment or declaring a state of emergency, is it a function of the American political/governing structure?

Whatever the cause, whoever is to blame, SOMETHING IS SERIOUSLY FUCKED UP DOWN THERE. With a disparity like that, I don't think that that can be denied.

Numbers may change, as India has not yet become hot.

I think it makes more sense to compare with coumtries in Europe.

It seems clear to me, that countries with social democracy, i.e. less inequality and a well funded health care system like Denmark and Germanyare doing much better.

How the fuck can the people in charge of USA sleep at night when record people die because there are no money for health care, and when there are kilometer long bread lines all over the country, at the same time as USA maintains 800 military bases all over the world in order to rain death and destruction on untold countries.

There are no breadlines in Germany or Scandinavia. People would not stand for it.

It’s become tragically evident that the US has no health care system. It has islands of health care scattered across the country.

It’s every man for himself. Every hospital for themselves. Every state for themselves.

A shared common vision of health care is not a component of the American identity. War is....they always rally around a good war but turn on each other over health care.

That is really shocking.
Clearly its all due to how densely NY is populated and not at all the near month long stalling by its orange makeup wearing leader.

I have heard that from some corners.

Oh. Just noticed no righties have replied. Not sure what made me think of that.

I will. Their health care system isn't equal. That leads to more deaths because the people who can't afford health care let things go and when they do get the virus fare poorly because of the underlying conditions, secondly their diet is horrific. They live off processed and fast foods. From what I have read no one has died due to a lack of care once they got sick so the preparation factor has little to do with death. The infection rate on the other hand does. The fact that he downplayed the virus added to the numbers infected. It's a failure of their government in general that dates back decades. They refuse to go to Universal Health Care. That includes both parties. Their economy is the biggest factor in my eyes when people put work ahead of everything else including their health. No country eats unhealthy food like they do. The company is run by big business including companies like McDonald's and Coke who lead the way in unhealthy foods. Some of their biggest companies are companies that peddle unhealthy foods. They also take more legal drugs than any other country because of things I mentioned previously and all these drugs have side effects. Big business runs their country and both parties are beholden to them. It's the fault of the entire political and economical system because they value money over everything

That is a pretty good description. Except I think you are over rating the health treatment poor people without health insurance are getting. My wife had a baby in a hospital in USA, and in the same ward a Mexican American girl had a baby.in the morning She and her baby had to leave in the afternoon before dinner, because she could not afford the charges.

If anyone thinks it isn't because of their healthcare system, processed food system, drug system resulting in an unhealthy population you haven't been paying attention.

They sell to you until they kill you.

You're right I probably did over rate the health care for poor people, actually most of them don't even get it because they are poor.

I’m not much of a BoJo fan, but his words encapsulate what it means to have a shared vision of health care as part of your national identity.

“We will win because our NHS is the beating heart of this country. It is the best of this country. It is unconquerable. It is powered by love.”

The US is suffering without it.

Except Boris only found the truth after he was saved from death by the NHS. Let us see if his new found belief in the NHS stays.

Yup, Boris tweeted out that he visited COVID patients in a hospital and shook hands with them.
Then he got sick and saw the light.

The things you seem to mention most are based on capitalism. Big business running the country. Insurance companies controlling the health care system. You didn't mention it directly, but the influence of lobbyists. So it is not necessarily that people in the states are ignorant as to their own health compared to people in other countries, it is that they are trapped in a system controlled by big business.

I would infer from that that for the health of Americans it would be better if big business did not control so much. The only alternative that I can think of for that is for the government to take more control, a move in the direction of socialism. That is the antithesis of the basic tenet of Republicanism which is smaller government, more free market. That is what trump is constantly pushing for.

As a trump supporter (did not say tDS or cultist) how do you reconcile promoting free market and small gov't at the same time you seem to say that those things are bad for the health of Americans?

Sorry I can't answer right now as regards to Trump, But I will say this is not only a Republican issue. Democrats promote a free market as well and are in the pockets of big business so what are you trying to say? Are you saying Democrats are for socialism because they deny it vehemently. The only one who ran on socialism was Bernie. Do we not have a free market in Canada? Is our economy based on socialism? A lot of businesses in Canada are American based, the big ones anyway. Should we ban free market products? Forget about going to Wall mart, Home Depot and using Apple, Google and Micro soft products among others. We also get a lot of food from them, should we stop that too?

Not sure why you are only singling out the US for the disproportionate amount of cases based on population. They have a smaller multiplier than Spain, Italy or France.

The US multiplier is 7 (% of world cases/% of world population)
France's is 8
Italy's is 12
Spain's is 15

About 35% of all US cases are concentrated in New York and another 11% are in New Jersey. High density populations with large Italian and Chinese ethnicity.
