Here are just a few proven ways that you can make yourself smarter:

1. Read a fucking book!

2. Get the fuck off the internet. No, it is NOT a repository of all human knowledge. It is a cesspit of kitty pictures and porn. Escape now before the inevitable merging of its two major aspects!

3. Improve your peripheral vision (which makes you smarter by... umm... errr.... allowing you to spot bludgeoning attacks before they land and therefore keeping your brainbucket from getting damaged!)

4. Write in complete motherfucking sentences. when u use txtspeak and abbrviated wurdz u become all slack-like n lazy in teh brain WTF iz wrong wit u all just write a fucking sntnce alrdy jzus chrst do u hate wordz tht fcking much i hav 2 read ths shit teh least u cn do iz make it cohrnt

5. Ignore every bit of advice you see in online fora. Guaranteed to make you at least 63.6% smarter.

I just tried viewing a thread on here for the first time in months since I stopped viewing threads that long ago. A main reason I stopped is that just about every time someone started a thread that I thought could be interesting, the idiots would start posting obnoxious garbage demonstrating the minuteness of their small minds. This thread is a good example.

I would. Honestly I would. But it is hard to watch anything through these tears of frustration and sadness for the downfall of knowledge and humanity whenever I see ANOTHER FECKING EEJIT THAT CAN'T BE ARSED TO PUNCTUATE OR WRITE OUT A FUCKING WORD IN ITS ENTIRETY! Seriously though dude. Would it fucking kill you? Does the effort to write a "y" and an "o" tucker you out so fucking much that you just can't bring yourself to do it? Does the prospect of hitting the shift key when starting a sentence just make you curl up into a ball? How can you expect anyone to care about what you say when you can't even be bothered to, you know, actually say it?

Obviously you are troubled by the actual back-and-forth of discourse. I bet you're lots of fun at parties. At any rate, might I recommend Buzzfeed or any other aggregate listsicle site then? Even more vapid clickbait-y content than OP's link, with none of what you deem small minded commentary.

Oh I can perfectly understand. Your shallow little mind goes over well at parties.

How'd you know? The more I drink, the more entertaining I think I am. And I never go home remembering having had a lousy time. In fact, I never even remember going home. ...funny how I never get invited to parties much anymore.

At any rate, I'm proud of you for understanding. Gold star. Thumbs up and all that. Kudos. Really. Quite an achievement, enlightenment. errrr... you do understand that by continuing to engage me in this thread you are perpetuating exactly the kind of shittacular circle jerk that you were decrying with such passion earlier, right? But of course you do. Because you're a smart feller, filled with unnerstanding n such.

Your fucking doc is nothing but empty banter. The whole neuroplasticity craze is bunkum: vapid quick-fix bullshit for a vapid quick-fix generation. ...you know, the kind of people who can't be arsed to write out a fucking word or sentence. In fact, it is no surprise that you in particular think this thing is worth watching. It's emblematic of the short-attention mindset everyone seems to engage in. Gimme 10 ways to improve my whatever-the-fuck, STAT! Gimme sum motherfucking lifehacks! MOAR LISTSICLES! MOAR BETTER GOOD SHORTCUTS NAO!

It's all crap. You want to watch an amazing documentary? Pick any random one from Adam Curtis ( http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/search/?results=adam+curtis ). Leave the bullshit mindhacks pap to the TED talk crowd. Now if you'll excuse me, someone emailed me a link to this amazing video of a kitten on a roomba, and Imma go watch it nao k?

Depends what you mean by smart.

If by smart you mean more knowledgeable then yes, reading and research will help.

If by smart you mean be better able to solve puzzles, sure, practicing puzzles will give you strategies to solve them better.

If by smart you mean better using your body's potential, then sure, things like juggling, yoga, or sports will do it.

If by smart you mean intelligent, I have some bad news. Best you can do is slow the decline as the brain ages by not letting it get lazy (the point of luminosity etc).

You can learn tricks to make you seem smarter but that only changes how people see you, not how you really are.

There is no consensus on how to reliably measure intelligence because it depends on the definition. Standardized IQ tests measure certain spatial, logical and verbal cognitive abilities but you could not detect a superior motor skills of a star athlete or the improvisational skills of a world class musician. Thus technically, one could improve the IQ by practicing the kind of puzzles and brain teasers found in IQ tests. It is known that short term memory is one of the biggest contributor to IQ test results so techniques that improve short term 'working' memory could also help improving IQ, along with low calorie intake and cardiovascular exercise.

this is what the narrator accomplished on his journey to improve his brain

1 increase thinking speed

2 sharpen attention

3 increase memory

4 become more creative( logic gets in the way of creativity, by numbing the part of the brain involved in logic u become more creative)

5 understand body intelligence

it seems to me one major improvement left is to understand abstruse concepts and intellectual complexities, if u can do that everyone can go to MIT which would be the holy grail
They will get there it is a matter of time

Like the complex concept that creativity can't be so easily quantified or turbocharged via some flavour-of-the-month pop brain-booster tools? Yeah, well... good luck to him with that one.

Your viewpoint parallels a Grandmother's who refuses to look at the Internet because of all the bad things she has heard & also because she is intimidated by the computer.

The 'fucking' Internet is a larger repository of human knowledge than your local library. You will find more news and current scientific knowledge here than any other medium. Top put this in prospective, think of National Geographic when you were a kid. Your parents read the articles but your zipped through it looking for boobies. The Internet is a much larger version of that National Geographic.

You can sit in the comfort of your home and with the touch of a button read about Magna Carta, Julius Caesar, the real battle of the 300, watch TED talks (informative talks by cutting edge researchers), university lectures on viruses, astronomy, mathematics, geology, along with books from literary giants..... vast sums of knowledge at your whim ...

..or you can look at porn & kittie pictures.

So if we follow your advice: '5. Ignore every bit of advice you see in online fora. Guaranteed to make you at least 63.6% smarter.'

I would start by ignoring your item 2.
