The Great Shat's episode Terror at 20,000 Feet was directed by Richard Donner. He directed another 6 episodes then launched the Superman and Lethal Weapon franchise. He also directed The Omen.

That was the best episode of S1: Within Walking Distance. Gig Young made that episode work, phenomenal actor. He became the first TZ actor to win an Oscar for They Shoot Horses Don't They? Sadly like Richard Conte he died before his time and isn't as well known today.
Just read his wiki. He died at 64 which isn't exactly young, and it was due to his own murder-suicide of himself and his wife.

That TZ episode is excellent. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4v10c6

That episode was called the Sandkings. Too funny you knew that one, it was one of my favorites.

Very cool way of looking at the show.

Does anyone remember Omni magazine? I know you do. It was in one copy perhaps in 1980 that they printed the short story of the Sandkings.
Here is the link to read it online. https://forwearemany.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/sandkings.pdf

Myself, I'm not big on fiction but a friend at the time mentioned this short story in what was the current issue of Omni, so I thought I'd buy it and read it. I agree, it was good readin'.

You're welcome

As I was in the drugstore yesterday, on the magazine rack, of all things I saw Omni Magazine. Apparently it's a collector's edition. I had a quick flip through it and then I bought it. Apparently it's been resurrected, with a website. You can find the website here. http://omnimagazine.com/, and the magazines in a magazine rack near you.

FYI Omni was originally headed by Bob Guccione (who died several years ago). You also may recall that Penthouse was his main magazine.

I am a huge fan of Rod Serling's work (geek level fan, LOL) and have all the Twilight Zone and Night Gallery episodes on DVD. I think the original Black and White (shot on film) Twilight zone episodes have really stood the test of time. Some of the Night Gallery Episodes haven't aged as well and were better in script or short story form. My notable Twilight Zone episodes are "Walking Distance", "A Stop at Willoughby" and others too numerous to list. For Night Gallery - one of the best episodes (IMO) was directed by the then unknown Steven Spielberg - "Eyes", starring Joan Crawford. Still chilling to watch. Serling also wrote the screenplay for the original "Planet of the Apes" and you can really see the Serling influence with the last scene when the camera pans back to reveal the Statue of Liberty. The other less appreciated work was Serling's work as a narrator. He had great narration voice for shows like the U.S. edition of "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau". Apparently he was a very generous director and collaborator who always shared credit with others.

Breaking Bad fans - Vince Gilligan was a big student of Serling's work which hugely influenced his directing style and method of storytelling.

Look up Serling's bio on wikipedia and you'll see what he did before the entertainment biz- testing parachutes and ejector seats for fighter planes. In the second case, he was paid half before the test, and if he lived he'd get the other half. Yikes! I'm also grateful to the original OP, who said the Twilight Zone in currently on the space channel.

He also saw action in the Pacific Theatre - and I believe he received the Purple Heart after being wounded in action.

...lots unknown actors who would gain fame later.
That was the best episode of S1: Walking Distance. Gig Young ...
And Ron Howard (or "Ronnie" as he was listed in the credits) as one of the kids, before he was Opie.
They show you the Gig Young character is back in the "present" by the shot of the Stereophonic jukebox playing a 45 rpm record.

Elated with the returns on St: Discovery, CBS is now rebooting TTZ. Without Rod Serling's genius, I don't believe it will work.

Serling was a Korean War veteran, apart from The Twilight Zone, he wrote the screenplay for three highly acclaimed films: Requiem For a Heavyweight, Seven Days in May and Planet of the Apes.

Elisabeth Montgomery was so fucking hot! Charles Bronson a year before The Great Escape.

Hard Times, one of my personal favorites.

Charles Bronson vs superstar stuntman Nick Dimitri in his first acting role. Dimitri went on to be the stunt co-coordinator for Total Recall, The Fugitive and ST: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine. I couldn't buy Steven Seagal taking him out so easily in Out For Justice.

Agree. It's like when they did "Twilight Zone, the Movie". That's the movie where Vic Morrow was killed during the helicopter accident. I don't think the movie really worked because they tilted more towards a horror genre than the storytelling of Serling.
