TVO's Steve Paikin accused of sexual harassment

TORONTO — Ontario’s public broadcaster says it has launched an investigation into an allegation of sexual harassment against host Steve Paikin.

TVO says Paikin is alleged to have made inappropriate comments to a woman during a lunch in 2010.

The broadcaster says it became aware of the allegation on Saturday, when Paikin notified TVO of an email he received from the woman.

TVO says an independent third party will investigate the allegation.

It says Paikin will stay on as host of its flagship current affairs program, The Agenda, over the course of the investigation.


TVO says that based on current evidence, it doesn’t see any reason to remove Paikin from the role.

Paikin could not immediately be reached for comment. The allegations have not been verified by The Canadian Press.

What? They haven't fired him? Surely there's no reason to have a third party investigation. If Sarah Thomson said it happened, it happened. Hell, she even had a witness. To quote Justin Trudeau “Sexual harassment is a systemic problem" and "when women speak up, we have a responsibility to listen to them and to believe them."

I'd like to know precisely what he said before I make a judgement. I also think society needs to redefine sexual harassment as some comments, mostly jokes, IMO aren't harassment. They are inappropriate and there's definitely no place for them but to say someone harassed you by making what could be an innocent comment that is just taken the wrong way is overstating the issue.

Harassment to me includes unwarranted advances, innuendo's implying getting together, unwanted staring/attention especially after being told to discontinue, etc. The "threesome" joke the one MP made doesn't come across as harassment to me although that's the official label.

Here's what she wrote. Says her EA was there at lunch with Paikin. Sounds pretty absurd to think that Paikin would say that right in front of a 3rd person. Let's see if he coroborrates her story under oath.

No guy in his right mind is going to hit on that woman. I'm sorry, but she is incredibly unattractive and a lunatic to boot. It sounds like it was a chance meeting and he's going to make her an offer like that? No fucking way. If a man is looking for a quick piece of ass, he's looking for good looking. He's not looking for a relationship of any sort. Just a good looking woman. And Sarah does not fit the definition. Even Rob Ford was horrified at the notion and he was probably high half of the time.
