Are there any ads out there that just irk you whenever they come on the tube?
I'll get the ball rolling by posting my 2 most vexatious offenders at the moment, although each is annoying for different reasons.
1) The Kia Spectra wagon commercial where the male driver is making out with a hot, blonde female cop, who then gets out of his vehicle to return to her cruiser in order to respond to a radio call. This one just pisses me off on so many levels that it's hard to itemize them all, but I'll try:
- What doofus expects to pick up chicks, much less HOT, BLONDE cops... in a Kia Spectra?? The suggestion that if you drive a Kia, "life is better" not only insults my taste in automobiles, it also insults my intelligence.
- What kind of cop neglects her professional duties to make out with some loser in a Kia?
- What kind of self-respecting woman DFKs some skid with a bad haircut, a shitbox car and a week's worth of stubble?
Arrrrrgh... I could go on and on, but it's just not worth it...
2) The Gillette deodorant commercial with the sweaty guy who walks into the room, peels off his shirt and jumps into the shower. Then his SO walks in, smells his shirt and interrogates him as to where he's been, because she doesn't believe his shirt can still smell so good after a run. WTF? Does everyone have BO? More offensive than the lame premise of this ad, however, is the appalling vocal dub. Clearly, this commercial was shot in another language (probably Italian) and dubbed for the North American market. But the lip synch is so bad, so obvious, it's embarassing. Are you telling me a multi-billion-dollar corporation like Gillette can't afford to shoot a separate commercial for its largest market? Or are their marketing execs such retards they didn't notice the atrocious technical deficiencies of the dub? A piss-poor effort, in any case.
Those are my two biggest TV peeve magnets at the moment. How about yours?
