CityTV is reporting that a TTC strike begins Midnight Friday. The union voted 65% against the deal. Just imagine the chaos as the clubs empty tonight and everyone finds no buses, streetcars, subways.

So much for the 48 hour notice they pledged to give.
Well, the 48 hours thing was just the TTC union fucking us around. They don't have to give us anything. They are powerful, they know it, and they know we can't do shit about it.

I feel really bad for those who are just getting off shift after midnight and have no idea, or those who went to bed before it was announce get up and go stand waiting for their bus only to find out its not comming.

Maybe if there's enough public opinion, the settlement offer can now be rescinded. The clause mandating that they be the top-paid transit union in the GTA must gall all their fellow transit workers in the region.

I think I'll savor the thought of Bob Kinnear's forthcoming weekend. He faces assault threats not only from the public, but also from his membership. I don't think he is very good at handling journalists, either.

This would not bother me so much if it was not a repeat performance ever 2-3years & they appear not to care about the millions of people who will be disrupted.
They simply do not recognize the city is broke & you cant get blood from a stone. 80 K / year to make change & they want more
Give it a rest

I guess they don't care to much of the safety of the streetcar or bus driver who has to tell ususpecting passengers to get off in the middle of the route.

I think what you forget is if they leave the job, where else can we get people qualified to drive a bus or make change!

I think they should just rescind the old deal and play hardball. Train some new people to make change and to look dashing in those putrid uniforms.

I think there is a place for unions, but this is just abuse by people providing an essential service and a mayor who is perhaps the worst mayor this city has ever had.

I think it would be awesome to be streetcar driver! I have loved them all my life & it's been one of those secret dreams I had, if I ever had a "regular" job, thats what I'd want to do!

That's a bit extreme isn't it..? I think all levels of govt share some blame for the mess the TTC now find themselves in. Hopefully the province moves fast to get the situation rectified.

What fuckin bullshit!!!

A friend of mine just bought a weekly pass...The TTC operator didn't even mention the possible strike to warn her she might be wasting her money....

Feel really sorry for the people who are caught off guard by this strike...

I give up. You are right. It's all our fault. Our city should give the driver more money. $100K is not enough. They are worth $1million, so at least the city should pay them $1million each just to be fair as a union standard. Our city should also give these guys guns and rifles as well for their protection. Licenses to kill would probably be what the unions should negotiate in the contract.

I can hardly wait to hear what the Mayor of your fair city has to say!

He will likely be joining his union "brothers" on the picket line.

Actually if they form a line it would be easier to pick them off.:D

Surprisingly, he actually seemed pretty pissed of. He has asked McGuinty to legislate them back to work asap.

They are greedy and shortsighted. Sure there are unpleasant aspects to working with the public but they are well compensated.
