I really hope China has given Venezuela some of its long range anti-ship missiles to test. Sinking a US carrier would really end a lot of nonsense and gunboat diplomacy.
While I would love to see Trump embarrassed, sinking something like a carrier would cause all sorts of international issues. Trump would bomb Venezuela into the stone age, and he might do something stupid with China for supplying the weapons....It would make a bad situation significantly worse....

But...it would also be a hell of a distraction from the Epstein files...

Which reminds me... did anyone see that movie Wag the Dog from like 1997? It is eerily similar in several ways to today's events. It starts with the US President getting caught trying to fuck an underage girl just weeks before the election....so his chief of staff hires a Hollywood producer to help develop a crisis/war to distract the general population. It stars Dustin Hoffman, Robert DeNiro and Anne Heche.

Unfortunately, I don't believe its available on any streaming services right now..

Pentagon chief Hegseth announces operation against 'narco-terrorists'

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Thursday announced a new operation aiming to target "narco-terrorists."

"Today, I'm announcing Operation SOUTHERN SPEAR," Hegseth said in a post on social media platform X.

"Led by Joint Task Force Southern Spear and @SOUTHCOM, this mission defends our Homeland, removes narco-terrorists from our Hemisphere, and secures our Homeland from the drugs that are killing our people. The Western Hemisphere is America's neighborhood – and we will protect it."

The announcement comes after the world's largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R Ford, arrived in the Caribbean earlier in the week. Washington says its military presence in the area aims to combat transnational criminal organizations and protect the US from illicit drugs.

Since September, US President Donald Trump's administration has authorized strikes in the Caribbean and Pacific on boats allegedly carrying narcotics to the US. The strikes are said to have killed dozens of people so far.

The actions have been widely criticized, partly because the Trump administration did not initially cite any legal basis for its actions.

UN human rights experts consider the attacks a violation of international law.

Underneath this is a view that royalty (not quite the right word, but something similar) often takes - Trump (and putin and xi) wishes to divide the world into spheres, so usa runs north and south America, the Russians get Europe, and China gets Asia.
Sovereignty and freedom etc just not on the menu. The Russians have always believed power means nothing unless you're using it to crush or dominate or take what you want.
