Hahaha

President Trump on Saturday slammed CNN for a mistake in a recent report on Russia meddling, saying the cable TV network was “caught red handed” disseminating “fake news.”

“CNN’S slogan is CNN, THE MOST TRUSTED NAME IN NEWS.” Trump tweeted. “Everyone knows this is not true, that this could, in fact, be a fraud on the American Public. There are many outlets that are far more trusted than Fake News CNN. Their slogan should be CNN, THE LEAST TRUSTED NAME IN NEWS!”

Actually, it was the Washington Post that exposed the error.

Furthermore, CNN has hardly been forthcoming in explaining what happened. As this excellent article by Glenn Greenwald points out, CNN has failed to explain how "multiple sources" could all have seen the wrong date on the email.

https://theintercept.com/2017/12/09...-refuses-all-transparency-over-what-happened/

This cock-up actually highlights the problem with using anonymous sources. It's too easy for anonymous sources to spread lies with immunity, as their identities and reputations are protected.

Correct. Trump hasn't railed against "anonymous sources" for at least 30 years. When the sources are anonymous, there is no accountability. It's a shitshow ripe for abuse. Such sources don't even haven to actually exist. A reporter or journalist can simply lie and say it came from some "anonymous source". CNN's reliance on these sources has fucked them over enough times already.

When Trump continuously says "believe me" when he preaches to his base, you know that he is definitely lying and only his cult followers actually take his word for it.
So Trump and his pet from Fox News Hannity, as well as Breitbart = the greatest fake news stories.

It wasn't just CNN who ran with this bogus story. Here is a good breakdown of the reporting, including a breakdown of MSNBC's claim to have independently verified the e-mail. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGgqiEAC8Ws

Legitimate media is constantly checking for accuracy and when it makes a mistake retracts, corrects clarifies etc. as the case may be. No media outlet is perfect. Mistakes have been made and will be made and the legitimate media acts responsibly. Trump and GOP and member of this board think that because media make some mistakes that all media must be fake. Trump is a pathological lier and when he gets caught doubles down.

One, media outlets only "correct" their mistakes when someone else (the Trump admin, or a media competitor) devotes their resources to determining the correct facts. Media outlets are not self correcting, as your post would suggest. Instead, the media appears to opportunistically jump aboard the poor reporting of their competitors (since they can't be blamed for the errors in those instances, except (as was the case with MSNBC on Trump Jr. e-mail story) when they claim to have independently verified the same facts).

Two, if mistakes were made both ways - some in favour of the Trump administration, some not in favour - you could put it down to strained resources, tight deadlines, and media competitiveness. But that's not the reality. The mistakes are almost exclusively counter to the Trump administration. That's why the public is much more likely to see desperate political advocacy as the motivator for the "mistakes".

If Trump lies about anything of substance it should be possible to demonstrate that without telling a lie to do so.

I see lot of deflections, but the truth is that it is up to the media to verify their sources. That's their job. And they suck at it when it comes to Trump. How many unverified and untrue stories the mainstream media published about Obama?

I guess Trump has been taking up the slack big time with those many unverified, untrue fake news stories about Obama that the MSM couldn't uncover because they just didn't exist except in Trump's maniacally deranged alternate universe mind.

The undisputed world champion fake news originator and gossiper is ..... yeah you know it .... Trump.

If only Politifact were some unbiased omnipotent font of truth. Alas, it's just another propaganda engine.

LOL. PolitiFact is a nonpartisan fact-checking website to sort out the truth in American politics. It is a project of the Tampa Bay Times, a publishing company based in St. Petersburg, Fla. The Tampa Bay Times is owned by The Poynter Institute, a nonprofit school for journalists.

Nobody has a monopoly on determining the truth, and no organization that needs money to operate is unbiased. Here's an article citing a study which found that Politifact favors Democrats over Republicans. http://www.weeklystandard.com/politifact-misrepresenting-data-about-politifact/article/732009

LOL. You can call it a banana but it is an apple. You are too funny.
Since I don't understand your sense of humour (other than the vague allusion to CNN, which maybe says a lot), I guess I'm not likely to understand your reasoning either. But I'll still trust in the notion of deciding what I think is factual for myself, rather than delegating that responsibility to some unaccountable organization.

Facts are not a matter of decision or choice other than to Trumpsters.
