The national archives has to release them. Not the president. His personal papers yes, he can choose to. But anything done as president is not his to decide.

Serious as they are state papers, but of all the charges he faces, this is the most minor and the most clear cut.

When Obama became President Blackberry had to make a special phone just for him so every communication on it, including BBM, could be seen by the NA. Its the law.
No President is allowed any private letters. Especially between leaders. They can be classified, but have to be turned over.

All true. But the question has arisen now if he did declassify them and the paperwork was not filed correctly. Supposedly the vast majority of the documents are not classified. And the nature of the rest may be personal letters exchanged(Kim Jong Il's are reported amongst them) or other non essential things. The US govt is notorious for slapping classified on everything in various levels so the term is not as serious as some think.Ex president.
He has to sign an order to declassify most documents. Just because it's in his possession does not mean it's declassified.
Moreover, the documents belong to the USA. Not Donald Trump. Everything he did as president belongs to the USA. It is a felony to destroy government documents. Here you go,

Personally I think the greater danger to him is if there is anything that could be used in other matters against him. But the above, can be attributed as much to clerical errors and the bar for any actual criminal charges is really high. He can't be the first President to have fucked upped or kept shit he wasn't supposed to. So they take it back.
