Looks like the Trump's ceasefire didn't workout
President Donald Trump has extended the state of emergency in the US for one more year. This state of emergency was initially declared by Joe Biden due to harmful foreign policy actions by Russia, according to the US Federal Register.
The document's heading reads, "Continuation of the national emergency with respect to specified harmful foreign activities of the government of Russia."
The document also notes that the state of emergency was imposed by the previous president, Joe Biden, in April 2021. This decree was primarily aimed at blocking Russian assets and imposing sanctions.
The list of actions taken by Russia includes:
"For this reason, the national emergency... must continue in effect beyond April 15, 2025," the document concludes.
In March, Trump proposed a full ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. The Ukrainian side agreed to this idea for 30 days, but Russia was "only ready" for a partial ceasefire (covering energy and the Black Sea). However, the ceasefire never materialized as Russia continues to shell Ukraine daily, including strikes on energy infrastructure.
According to sources from Fox News, the US president realized that Russian President Vladimir Putin was stalling the ceasefire in Ukraine. As a result, Washington is considering tightening sanctions against Russia.
In particular, Trump personally threatened to impose secondary sanctions on countries purchasing Russian oil.
