It might seem that private companies can hire who they want. There's two problems with that thought. First, private employers in the U.S. generally must abide by Federal law as affirmed by our Courts. Second, any organization that accepts Federal funds must abide by Federal policy.

The latter has been applied in American higher education. The Obama Administration forced universities to increase their enforcement and punishment of rape on campus using Title IX. There are a few conservative and Christian colleges that don't accept Federal funds in order to prevent government interference. This would adhere to the true meaning of a private institution.

So it's not entirely clear if Harvard is in the right in these matters. I suspect it's somewhere in the middle. Affirmative action is being dismantled by court challenges. I think as far as admissions the Supreme Court has weighed in. It appears that this is the direction they are heading on hiring as discrimination cases work through the lower courts.

More importantly in the case of Harvard, I believe hiring in an institution that accepts federal funds cannot require adherence to a political philosophy. This one will keep the courts real busy because I think many American universities have advocated defacto political allegiance. You and others should think real hard about that as it relates to Federal funding.
In the courts there is no middle ground you are either guilty like Trump or innocent like OJ. You didn't answer my question about if you think it's ok for a corrupt little turd like Lil Ron to fuck over Disney on zoning rights because of a political vendetta? Trump is doing the exact same thing in several instances although his are all personal vendetta which if you give him 1m and rub his taint you will get anything you want

You mix things together quite a bit. If a political executive or legislature oversteps, the Courts then weigh in.

The problem for Disney is that they had unique and special privileges inside Florida. It was stupid for the former CEO to get into the political mix in Florida. I doubt DeSantis didn't have the authority given that Disney had no recourse with the courts.

Trump will be reigned in some, but Harvard will never be the same. That's the nature of Democratic politics. Different groups exerting political pressure to achieve political results. If Harvard hadn't overextended their mission, we wouldn't be having this discussion. If they shutdown aggressive and disruptive protests, they probably would have stayed clear of this mess. As far as public sentiment, I can assure you that a great many Americans couldn't care less about Trump or Harvard.

One of the problems for progressives on social media is that they're not all down with the anti-Israel attitudes with university administrations, faculty and students. I think almost everyone is fine with free speech, but not the extreme protests.

PS- I don't think comparisons to Vietnam War protests are relevant. That was a war that had domestic implications and Americans had formed hardened opinions on the war. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is not as important to the American public. There is very little empathy for the campus protesters.

Former Harvard morgue manager pleads guilty to trafficking body parts from donated cadavers

The former manager of the Harvard Medical School morgue pleaded guilty to stealing body parts from cadavers donated to the Boston institution and then selling them, federal prosecutors said.

Cedric Lodge, 57, of Goffstown, New Hampshire, pleaded guilty to transporting stolen human remains, the Department of Justice said Thursday.

He pleaded guilty during a change of plea hearing Wednesday in federal court in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000, according to his plea agreement.

Lodge, who had managed the morgue for the Anatomical Gifts Program at Harvard Medical School, admitted to transporting and selling the stolen human remains across multiple states from 2018 to at least March 2020, prosecutors said.

The issue is that donors are typically pro-Israeli and that some faculty and staff are while most students are pro human rights.

So you believe that a violent insurrection is ok but protests are not. Interesting.

This post is based on a false assumption...
You are correct that the longer you stay on the wrong train the more expensive it will be to get home.

There's one issue with your statement. You are presuming a lot of members are happy with their home. Perhaps they're running away from it.
