Under the current U.S. Constitution, Donald Trump cannot serve a third term as president due to the 22nd Amendment, which limits a person to two terms in office. However, his real priority may not be returning to power but staying out of prison. One potential strategy is running J.D. Vance or another devoted sycophant as a puppet candidate, winning the election and then switching places through resignation or a legal loophole. If that fails, he could rely on a presidential pardon from his chosen successor. A constitutional amendment to overturn term limits is a long shot, requiring two-thirds ratification, making it politically impossible. That leaves the final, most dangerous option: seizing power extra-constitutionally. Given his past refusal to accept defeat, Trump and his allies could contest election results, declare a national emergency, or simply refuse to leave the White House. If backed into a corner with no escape, he may even barricade himself inside and force a deadly standoff, suicide by cop rather than surrender to the reality of wearing orange.

Will be dead or at least even more grossly senile by 2028. Vance would be running the show while Trump had the title.

Who was it that put a placeholder president in place to get around term limits?

What is it going to take for Trumpists to get the message?
Putin had the Russian constitution amended to allow for it. Even if amending the American constitution was possible at this point, I doubt it is btw, I'm not entirely sure Trump would win but a lot can change in four years

Yep, but USA system super clear. It's an amendment to the constitution. 3/4ths of the states would have to approve a new amendment ending that. That won't happen.

This is more likely fodder to distract from some other shit Trump is doing now.

Not really.
Trump is - as he has for a while now - stating an intent.

How he does it is something that comes later and worrying about "what legal trickery will he use" is pretty pointless.

He doesn't intend to let go of power.
Believe him.

If the people want to elect him or anyone else that has already served 2 terms then so be it. The 22nd amendment has only been in place since 1951. It can be changed if that is the will of the people.

Why is everyone losing their minds over this prospect?

Hopefully Trump will have made so much damage to the country that he will be pushed out.

By then it will be obvious Trump was working for Putin all along.

Oh I do.
I think now being put out to distract from the damage he's doing now and the signal gate problem.

But I am expecting a Reichstag moment in 2028.
