Trip to Costa Rica anyone?

I'm thinking of traveling to Costa Rica at the end of August to visit a friend (really and truly) for a week. The trip would include some usual touristy stuff, or not, depending on the mood. Anyone up to travel there with me?
Flying from YYZ, stay in San Jose or area.

Is the Delray in a safe part of town ? Monty P suggests not to stay there .

Lots of research to do before the trip. Yes, Delrey is a place to visit, but not necessarily stay. There are some nice looking hotels in the city. Oh, and a few nice looking ladies too!

Well, let's put it this way...much of the street crime in San Jose is due to the presence of gringos who aren't careful of the way they act while there.
The DR is in a safer part of town, but you still need to follow some elemental rules for safety that you would follow anywhere in the world.

I agree with Monty P's recommendation not to stay there, but not for that reason. The rooms there are basic, & because the Blue Marlin is on the ground floor, you have to know that pretty much every square inch of your room has been splooged on, lol. The Blue Marlin is open 24/7, so you're not gonna get a lot of rest if you stay at the DR. Also, you may tend to get crappier service from the girls because the guys who stay at the DR generally are the kind who throw $ around without thinking. Their mission will be to get you off as soon as possible & get back down to the Blue Marlin for the next guy. Also, the DR charges a $10 USD chica fee to take a girl to your room.

There are many monger friendly hotels close by. I'd say if you're a total newbie to mongering, or if you've never been out of the country before, the DR might be ok for you. There are tons of better options for others, though. And I can't stress this enough: take a taxi anywhere in San Jose after dark, no exceptions! Don't worry, they're very inexpensive.

I may be going again in July, or possibly October, so if anyone wants to coordinate a trip, let me know.

I went last year, stayed at the best western, about a 10 minute taxi ride to the delray, I never once walked the streets near the hotel at night, taxi is cheap, girls girls girls at the delray, ask a taxi about massage, it's cheaper, I paid 40 Canadian for 2 hours, got a shower, bbbj, and fs with a beautiful little spinner from CR.....be careful out there!!!! From the delray I took a girl back to my hotel, the hotel takes her ID for your safety, I thought it was a great idea, I got a couple of hours in my room, girl let me take pics too!!, total cost 80 bucks if I remember correctly.
I must admit though this year I went to the Dominican Republic......its cheaper, more chicas, more pickup joints, far better time if hobbying is the main reson for your trip

Yeah, you'd have to have a death wish to want to drive in San Jose. MP's are very plentiful, & far cheaper than the Blue Marlin, & FS is standard, BUT...because prostitution is legal in CR, things are reversed from Canada. The hottest girls are not strippers or MPA's, the hottest girls do offer FS, either in the Blue Marlin or elsewhere. The MPA's tend to be not quite as hot, & they regularly service far more guys per day than the girls in the Del Rey.

The great thing is that there are nice hotels that cater to the gringo sex trade very close to the DR, eg. Sportsmen's Lodge, La Amistad, Hotel Castillo, Freebird. None of these have chica fees & Sportsmen's has a bar with chicas regularly available there. Personally, I wouldn't stay there either, my preferred choice is Hotel Castillo, but I've heard some very good things about both La Amistad & Freebird.

BTW, there's a park right near the DR which at night has what appear to be chicas hanging out in it, & also some along the bordering streets. I say "appear" because they're trannies. And while I really don't care whether someone is interested in that kind of thing or not, one of these "girls" will grab your junk while her friends grab your wallet, so be warned.

Some decent advice regarding Costa Rica and San Jose has been posted in this thread. The Del Rey is like a rotating supermarket of women. Used to enjoy sitting below the bar have a beer and watching the girls parade up and down and up and down. Yep the park across from the Del Rey can be like a mind field after dark.

Before the Del Rey became famous there was a bar called Key Largo very close to it. It was a large mansion with about six different rooms in it on the first floor. Had some interesting times in that place. Being able to speak Spanish is a definite advantage. Pura Vida.

Key Largo is still open, chicas go there Thurs-Sun for the live music. You can find some good deals there, girls who aren't hardcore enough to hang out in the DR all the time. I hooked up with a Panamanian there last trip who looked like Aisha Tyler.

Costa Rica is a great place for mongering,been there many times.For all info and questions join costaricaticas.com You can meet up with some great guys who are members and possibly meet some of them down there and hang out together.Just use common sense when travelling and be street wise.You will have no problems if you are in a group of three or more guys going out on the town.
