A friend is driving to US this weekend. I told her that the wait times will be impossibly long because of July 4 Long Weekend. Do you recommend that she go over on Thursday night (after 11pm) or Friday morning (9 am or later). She tells me she is leaving Toronto on Friday at 7 am.

And when would be the best time/day to head back into Canada without the line up? Sunday or Monday? I assume most people will be back to work on Monday?

Will the July 4 weekend make a difference?

I don't know so much about Canadians traveling to the US but certainly the US people travelling here (or so we hope).

Just make sure she has the correct ID now. The rules have changed and I believe a passport is now required for land entry. I'd check the Border crossing website to confirm what is required.....

The one will show you the wait times (in real time)

Unpredictable.

But I would say the overall volume will increase, but I don't think there will be a significant back-up. Many Americans will have off on Friday, so there will be a couple days to move the traffic through.

Remember, practically ALL of the fireworks America celebrates The Fourth of July with will be made from China. Real democracy there....ohh, look at the sparks!

As I understand it, NYC puts up on an awesome fireworks show.

But there seems to be something about fireworks moving to the Hudson river. Does this mean that the fireworks will still be visible above the Statue of Liberty?
The usually have fireworks on both riverbanks. The Hudson River one is usually the Macy's sponsored display and the better of the two.

I don't think you'll get as good a few from the Statue as you would from going down to the lower east side.

personally, i've found easiest to head east on the 401 and cross over at hill island (just past gananoque).

it adds a little time to the trip, but it's much less of a headache...

you'll cross over and hit 81 south to syracuse, then continue on 90 towards nyc...

my 3 cents (bringing back inflation!)

That's a good way too.
Remember the Bridge a Cornwall is closed.
