I have trucked across the rock delivering goods. I was in St John's for two days as I waited for the ferry.
Women are said to pursue men because the men have gone west for work. Do not believe everything you hear. This was my experience:
I had decided on dinner and a concert ahead of time in case the opportunity arose for a date. Got a haircut and new clothes to look my best.
The first girl I met was totally smashing. Yoga pants put her body on a pedestal, like great art asking a question that takes many lifetimes to answer. Her breasts, that broke relief from her hour glass figure, could rewrite history. A natural beauty she was, nature's pride oblivious to her own stature, without conceit and seemingly unacquainted with the pleasures of physical love. Undressing her with my mind would have destroyed the innocence of beauty that is given randomly, stupidly and only to those with the sensitivies to perceive it. To do so would have been an act of sacrilege, like blowing up a Cathedral.
She was not doing much when I first noticed her, just standing there, leaning against a lamp post, waiting for a bus while holding up the universe. Such beauty makes my bones strain under the weight of the lives that I am not living.
I started talking to her and she responded in same.We had a friendly conversation but I got no feel she was interested in me so I complimented her on her looks then quickly change the subject so not to embarass her, hoping my compliment would get a return signal of interest. My compliment illicited a brief smile but there was never any suggestion of genuine interest on her part so I never embarrased her by asking for a date . Besides, if she declined me, I would have broken into many pieces, then she would of had to gather them and put them back in the right order.
The second lass was at the art gallery. She was a looker and super friendly as we discussed art. In Toronto, I would have thought she was signaling strong interest so I told her how amazing it would be to grace her beauty with dinner and concert but she politely declined.
Both were local lasses. I made the mistake of assuming if a girl is friendly in Newfoundland she is interested. People are just friendlier on the rock.
I would not go in the winter. They get lots of snow.
