Obviously this is tragic. But kind of tired of media trying to shit on the police every change they get. Police stop millions of people around the globe everyday. Just by pure mathematics innocent people will get killed, crazy things will happen but it's kind of irrelevant. 99.99999% of cases the police do the right thing. People slip and fall and kill themsellves in the shower everyday, but we dont have news articles about showers being deadly do we? Its clearly political when it comes to police which is just sad. I will always support the police no matter what and am proud of it.

If the police opened fire on a car they knew was involved in a child abduction then they deserve to be condemned (unless the dad was shooting at them from the car).

And you may have missed in the articles but I haven't seen a single news article stating the police did something wrong, simply that the kid died during the stop.

People have firearms in the community because most people hunt and for protection its just the way of life out here.
I grew up in rural Quebec. Yes, everybody own at least one gun. Never know when you might be attacked by a wild animal or a wild human. Remember when those two convicts escaped prison in NY state a few years ago. I saw videos of the locals walking armed with their long guns. No, I'm not a gun advocate.

Early on Thursday morning, officers in the community of Kawartha Lakes in Ontario were alerted to a domestic dispute involving a firearm and the suspected abduction of the one-year-old by his father.

The above was from the article on the incident. The father may have shoot the kid long before the cops arrived. So again I will reserve judgement until autopsy results are released.

Police should stick to what they know best, raping female co workers......most Canadian cops are nerds from high school who panic in situations like this.

Until the autopsy confirms the boy was shot by police I will hold back judgement.
Seriously?

Even if you think dad is nut case he was DRIVING his vehicle to ESCAPE from police

I don't care how good you think he was, he can't shoot his kid with 1 hand on wheel (he had a RIFLE as his firearm)

Cops did it obviously

I will also point out since you try to heap blame on the father; we are talking about a custody battle between a women and man. How the F do you think that authorizes use of deadly force in any way shape or form? Police should NEVER have engaged him in first place (tons of precedent for that, high speed chases + using firearms??? Talk about unsafe!)

They should NOT have fired into a car if there was any chance the kid was in there. The shit is going to REALLY hit the fan.

Look for criminal charges. Look for a massive lawsuit. Look for the Police Chief to resign. This is all going to happen.

The only exception I can think of is if the dad was actively firing at and attacking the cops and it was clear self defence.

Unless I've missed something, I don't see how the media is trying to "shit on the police." Every report I've read is a re-hash of a statement from the SIU, which is handling the case.

The old and simple rule is- never pull the trigger if you're unsure of the target. If the cop indeed killed the kid, I dread to even think what that will do to him. On the other hand, unless they were actually shot at, they had no reason to shoot or even pull out their weapons, ESPECIALLY knowing that this was a domestic dispute and that a kid was in the vehicle. We should reserve our judgement until we know all the facts. I sure hope that the victim was not black or an Indian.

It must be hard being you. Being so perfect and always being right(in your mind anyway).
Why would it be so hard to fathom that a parent would kill their own child during a custody battle? It has happened many, many times.
The report the police got was the father had a weapon.

I would like to thank you thou for being on the scene for the entire event. You seem to know exactly what happened and what was going through the fathers head and the police officers head. Shit, even the SIU is still putting the pieces of the puzzle together. You are wasting your time here. Why aren't you working for the SIU?

Wait and let the evidence tell us what happened, not your hate for cops.

The cops fucked up. Period. I don’t know what else there is to say. They fucked up and a little boy is dead.

I feel for the mother. You have a DV incident with you spouse {or ex, I can’t remember} and you call the cops. You figure they are the ones who will bring your baby back safe. Then you find out the boy is dead it was the police that killed him.

This is a joke right? The media started world-wide riots from their biased coverage on the George Floyd case. They painted him as the pope when in reality he was a degenerate fentanyl junkie who had been to prison 8 times. While the made two well meaning cops out to be the villains.

Wtf does that have to do with this case? Show where the media did that here or move on from your own bias.

He didn't ram the cruiser, he lost control after running over a spike belt.
Well in that scenario; "He didn't DELIBERATELY ram the cruiser, he lost control after running over a spike belt"

If true this actually INCREASES the liability of the cops

In my scenario I had assumed he hit the cop on purpose and cops retaliated with an illegal use of deadly force

In your scenario he accidentally hit a cop and cops retaliated with an illegal use of deadly force

But in either scenario it is ILLEGAL for a cop to ESCALATE
They can not legally draw and fire, much less kill someone in a scenario such as this

They are cops so won't get punishments they deserve but they will get roasted in social media at least and will probably need to move to find any sort of future employment
