Tracing telephone wires behind walls

…snip…everybody's nagging me about "those holes in the walls with the wires sticking out". At least when I'm done this they'll keep quiet about that.

Plaster over them. Strategically placed art works too, but you're looking for a permanent solution.
Then again, you could leave your family untouched and cover the holes.

Any good wire wand will find the break, but their maybe more then one break. Usually this happens in a new home and the drywallers don't give a shit about wires unless electrical. I would suggest fishing a new line, i would also suggest using the current one for a guide but again you never know if they stapled it to the studs. Try and track down an alarm installer, they usually are good at fishing lines with little damage to walls. Expect them to be their at least 2 hours for a good clean job with little damage.

Here's a thought .
1; relocate the wire closer to the wall closest to the furnace room.
2; locate the wire in furnace room and see if any slack then tie new wire on end and fish through.
