I don't on the whole think that people are racist here in Ontario. But Georgina Township... woof.
Heck, I bought a nice little property up north and for the most part have got along with most part get along with my neighbors fine. Most of the locals have made me feel more welcome than the cottagers from the burbs. I'm not white... in case you didn't know.
Somoene spoke about education earlier. That seems to be be the way. Humans will always seem to find differences wherever they may be. Heck given an absence of racial diversity, people will turn to religion or politics as an excuse to hate on one another.
Hate to say this but it is the role of the majority culture to understand and manipulate the power that they have. With great power comes great responsibility.
Minorities tend to race out anyway as a protective reflex in a strange land. People tend to get racist as kind of a protective measure in general anyway.
