This Jays free agent bust has the dubious distinction of having been paid more than $1 million for each inning he pitched, while a member of the Jays. Who is he?

I remember watching a game on tv a few years back and the question was asked: "Who was the first 2 players to play for both Canadian teams?"

The answer was: Hector Torres and Ron Fairly

I don't know who was the first but since Hector Torres was named first, I would say Hector Torres... hmmmm... Final answer... :p
I'm not sure if it's a mere coincidence, but these two players are also mentioned together in Terry Cashman's "Talking Baseball" song about the Jays' 10th anniversary:

We're talkin' baseball
Rick Cerone and Luis Gomez
Blue Jays baseball
Ron Fairly, Hector Torres
Big John and Griff and Otto all could play
Roy Howell, Rico Carty, Dave McKay
I'm talkin' baseball
Baseball and the Jays

Full lyrics

Full lyrics, if you care:

'77 was the Jays' first year
Toronto fans could finally cheer
As Ault hit two home runs in our first game
Bob Bailor was number one
Jerry Garvin's pickoff gun
The wins were few
And the team was new
But the fans still came

We're talkin' baseball
Rick Cerone and Luis Gomez
Blue Jays baseball
Ron Fairly, Hector Torres
Big John and Griff and Otto all could play
Roy Howell, Rico Carty, Dave McKay
I'm talkin' baseball
10 years with the Jays

Bosetti had a flair for style
Danny Ainge just stayed awhile
Clancy, Garth and Ernie were the core
Bobby Cox, he took the reins
And the Jays made instant gains
In '85 a winner arrived
It's what we waited for

I'm talkin' baseball
Bell and Moseby did the sluggin'
Blue Jays baseball
Steve and Lamp, they did some chuckin'
Garcia and Fernandez made the plays
Upshaw, Barfield; and Tom Henke saved the day
We're talkin' baseball
10 years with the Jays

When you're talkin' Toronto baseball
Sam Ewing, Tom Underwood
Hartsfield and Mattick both had class
The Princess Gate through which we passed
Alexander's game to win the AL East
Expansion blues have ceased

Alvis Woods and Junior Felix are, indeed, the two Blue Jays who homered in their first major league at bat.

What former NCAA star played three seasons with the Jays as his summer job?

Because he was not playing the the same sport professionally, he did not lose his eligibility under NCAA rules.
Danny Ainge. He played third base, and ended up playing for the Boston Celtics.

Was this the guy the Jays signed from St. Louis? Don't remember his first name, but I think it was Tom or Ken Daly.

This pitcher, pummelled by the Jays in his major league debut, (3 hits, 2 of them homers, two walks, and three earned runs, without recording an out), returned to the majors two seasons later, and threw a no hitter in his first game back. Who is he?

Wilson Alvarez got pummelled with Texas and threw the no no with the White Sox.

Wilson Alvarez is correct.

I "think" that it was John Olerud. If I remember correctly, Rickey Henderson and Devon White were on bases.

btw, John Olerud is also one of only two players in Major League history to hit for the cycle in both leagues. (Since noone answered it)

What former Argonauts quarterback had been a first round draft pick of the Montreal Expos? Not Jays trivia, per se, but there is a baseball and Toronto connection. I have a funny story about this guy, if someone gets his name right.

Both John Olerud and Darnell Coles are incorrect.

Condredge Holloway?
Conredge Holloway was, indeed, a first round pick of the Montreal Expos, as a shortstop.

Some of you may remember Gail Smith, the former CFTO news anchor in the 1980's. At one time, she was involved with an assault case involving a cleaning woman.

A reliable source, (which either means it's true, or a friend of a friend of a friend read it in Frank), tells me that this is what actually went down, so to speak:

Sometime in late 1986, early 1987, Gail was in her office at CFTO, blowing Holloway. The door was slightly ajar, and the curious cleaner was trying to take a peek at what was happening. Smith closed the door quickly, hitting the cleaner in the eye with the door knob. The suit was a ploy to extort some hush money from Smith, to avoid having this embarassing incident become public knowledge.

Shortly thereafter, Holloway was shipped off to Edmonton, and in October, 1988, when her contract expired, Smith left CFTO to pursue a challenging position at "The New VR" in Barrie. After a brief stint, she was never heard from again.

Make your own decision on whether this is the naked truth or urban legend.

Olerud had only 13 triples in his major league career, but two of them were in games, in different leagues, where he also had a single, double, triple, and home run.

The only other player to hit for the cycle in both leagues was Bob Watson, a former first baseman with the Houston Astros, New York Yankees, and Atlanta Braves, from 1966-84. Not known for his speed on the basepaths, Watson had 41 triples and 27 stolen bases during his 19 year career in the majors.

Explanation of the Olerud clue, Nirvana:

Olerud was born in Seattle, attended Washington State University, and, while in college, had a brain aneurysm, which is why he wore a helmet while playing first base.

Olerud is also perhaps the only player, (I'm not sure if there were any others), to be named a college first team All-American as both a pitcher and a position player. I think he was named as DH on the A-A batting team.

Nirvana were from the state of Washington, (Kurt Cobain frequently wore a red 'WSU' shirt at concerts, came to prominence in Seattle, and had a song on the B side of the Smells Like Ten Spirit single called Aneurysm, (also on the Incesticide album).

You guys are doing very well. I'm sure a few of these would stump Jerry Howarth. Still waiting for a guess on the youngest ever Jay.

This guy was never a Jay, but he was active in the majors for 16 seasons during the 1970's and 1980's. Through his first 14 seasons, he had a lifetime batting average over .400, only to see it drop to .397 by the time of his retirement. He played before interleague scheduling in the majors, and he had at bats in ten or more of his seasons. Who is he?

Hint: Fat tub of goo.
