I drive in to Toronto from the 'burbs frequently. Toronto's roads have got to be the worst I have seen in a long time. They seem to be getting worse. I am not talking about the traffic, which is another post entirely.

Once you get off the DVP going onto Bloor, then the terrible roads begin. It also includes streetcar tracks, which in my opinion, destroy the roads. Kudos to Rob Ford for wanting to get rid of those unsightly machines. Dundas, Bloor, Danforth, Gerrard, Queen, etc, etc. All the sides streets. The roads are just terrible. Torontonians have wanted and demanded no tax increases for years. As a result, there is no money there to fix the roads, or for any infrastructure repairs. Their shortsightedness is now coming home to roost.

Yeah we need to raise some money from those self important suburbanites who think their single occupant cars should get a right of way over 250 people on a streetcar.

I suggest road tolls, with a discount for anyone who can show that they pay property tax in Toronto.

The roads are there for all. Unless transit will be efficient enough to get me where I want to go when I want to go, and I don't have to spend all day in it, then I won't use it. And it's not just suburbanites who use the roads going into Toronto. Many many people from Toronto also use the same roads to get out of Toronto. People in Toronto work in the suburbs, and vice versa. Maybe we should do the same and charge a toll for those driving through the burbs going to cottages.

Right wing tax cutters have cut maintenance for a long time now in this city.
I remember when Toronto was known as the cleanest city in north america.
