With the rents a lot of small restaurants pay, it's going to be difficult for many to survive. I feel sorry for businesses these days. I'm luck of the lucky ones as I own the building I run my business out of and can continue with a skeleton staff and wait this out.

Why are they paying rent for a place they are not using? Why not give notice? Also will government bailouts not help them with rent? Furthermore, has the government not said people cannot be evicted for not paying rent? So what if these places simply don't pay their rents? And what's stopping these restaurants from reopening after this crisis ends? Their will still be a demand for their services. Unless the post crisis demand goes down, why wouldn't the industry thrive as well as before?

There will be reduced demand for restaurants for some time I fear.

They can’t have social distancing rules in place today and gone tomorrow.

How can anyone maintain 6 foot separation in a restaurant.

Seat people at every other table. That's what they're doing in the Asian countries that have re-opened their economies.

Great...the hot young servers will be wearing N95 masks while they serve me

Night clubs will be a blast with 6 foot separation.... lol.

Place tables 6 feet apart? Pickup your own food at counter & bring back to table, with a see through glass/plastic shield between customers & staff.

People picking up take out simply stay 6 feet apart from each other, like pedestrians walking on the sidewalk & shoppers in grocery stores should be doing.

Everyone wearing masks would also help tremendously.

The rent is only deferred, so, if they do not pay all the back the rent when they open, the only way for them to reopen is to declare a bankruptcy and open under the new name. But it will only work for incorporated small businesses with no assets.
