Toronto Island is still 40% flooded. Even if they open the Island in time for the Civic Holiday long weekend, who's going to go? It rains everyday and twice on weekends. To-day is typical, rain and threats of thunderstorms. Heard they lost $5 million in revenue so far.

I get around.
I kayaked to the Island and around the inner channels it was quite pleasant without the crowds. Might go tomorrow if weather is good.

Question: Are the beaches fit for humans and small animals? Or, are they all under water?

I went to Wards Island about a week ago. The beach is pretty much gone. Just a narrow strip of sand a few feet wide. It's walkable but nothing like it was.

Here's a cool site to track levels in the Great Lakes .... note the zoom feature on the timespan at the bottom of the page. Data goes back about 100 years. Zoom in on 2017 and you can see that the Lake Ontario level has dropped from 75.78 m on July 1 to 75.68 m on July 20, pretty much as stated by Mr. Deeds. The historical annual average water level for Lake Ontario is 74.76 m.

West Nile has tested positive on the Toronto Islands. With all those pools of water, it has become a breeding ground for those blood suckers. Ensure your properly protected if you do go over.

Heard on the radio that they still plan to open the Islands on July 31st, with some areas roped off. For me, the Islands and the Jays are a write-off this Summer. Even before this year, erosion was a major problem.

Anybody been? We might go this weekend. Probably Sunday as rain is forecast for Saturday and Monday (what else is new).
