By that definition Rob Ford wins the title of the worse mayor ever, by a touchdown
Totally.
Rob the crackhead cancelled the fully funded transit city and left us with a 30 year tax increase for one $3 billion subway station that has yet to have a shovel in the ground.
Worst mayor ever!

That's not a viable plan. You can't link 2 major highways by a boulevard. INSANITY.
Yeah sure, no one takes University/Avenue Road between the Gardiner and the 401. They all take the DVP and 427. And park. For hours.

That is true insanity, when City streets would have gotten them there quicker, and lots of us are too smart to take your highway to highway option.

The part you're missing is that if we don't take the Gardiner down it'll do the job itself. Like the highway in Italy. That's what things up in the air always do in the end.

Tell us how Tory's plan to build a whole new DVP-Gardiner further north makes more sense — as in dollars and cents — than building the road on the ground in the first place the way Keesmat and every non-pol who's looked at the options has recommended. But somewhere out there I'm sure you can find a Ford-clone who'd rather have your vote and his job than anything the City needs.

The only real difference I can see between Ford and Tory is that a lot of people liked Ford, and Ford smoked crack, whereas with Tory, it's his ardent supporters that smoke crack.

This city is such a f**k up from a planning perspective, anyone who was this city’s chief “planner” should not wear that label like a badge of honour.

A five year old with a crayon could’ve done a better job planning this city. Let me see, horrible stuck in the 50’s subway system, traffic gridlock 24/7, ghetto low- income neighbourhoods, ugly architecture in the form of bland condominiums everywhere with a dry cleaners and convenience store at ground level, punctuated by ugly uniformly boring shopping malls and smart centres. Just look at how these “planners” ruined the Toronto harbourfront as an example - an ugly wall of condos cutting the city off from the lake. Don’t get me started on the Gardiner....both Montreal and Chicago found solutions with better planning.

Planner my ass....

Cheers

Our first, William Lyon Mackenzie, David Crombie, Allan Lamport, Nathan Phillips …. Lot's to choose from.

Tory may yet measure up, but he's only had one term. You need a wider vision.
Name the accomplishments of all the people you listed.
It will be a short list. I can’t even think of anything David Crombie did.

It takes capital and mutual co-operation from all three gov't levels to build a subway system. That has not occurred since Bill Davis retired.

traffic gridlock 24/7,
With all existing land already paved over, what did you expect? They could add tolls to the DVP & Gardiner but doubt Ford would agree to that.

ghetto low- income neighbourhoods,
The Regent Park re-development begs to differ. Finding a private developer to partner in the transformation of other areas such as Jane/Finch, will currently be a hard-sell even with gov't incentives.

ugly architecture in the form of bland condominiums everywhere with a dry cleaners and convenience store at ground level, punctuated by ugly uniformly boring shopping malls and smart centres.
Ugly architecture is subjective but I agree. The current crop of condos could be future glass-encased maintenance nightmares.

Just look at how these “planners” ruined the Toronto harbourfront as an example - an ugly wall of condos cutting the city off from the lake.
At least there is the Billy Bishop Airport there to entertain those living along that stretch.

Don’t get me started on the Gardiner....both Montreal and Chicago found solutions with better planning.
You do know that Toronto was very different when the Gardiner was designed back in the 1950s...

All of which was planned and built long before she applied for the job in Toronto.

But there's a few folks still sitting on Council and who have movedfin Queen's Park who had a finger or two in those messy pies back when they could have been made better. Mammo being a conspicuous example.

You asked I answered. I'm not at all surprised you can't think of anything yourself. Look them up; they're all in Wikipedia.

You claimed Tory was the best Mayor Toronto ever had; tell us why. He's campaigning, even your wee effort might help.

John Tory as a mayor is a work in progress. The city is much better off with him then several mayors before him.
Obviously you can’t think of anything those people you listed have done. You just listed a bunch of former mayor’s, some of which are deadbeats.

Worth voting for if you want to help fund her unicorn fantasy projects with higher taxes. Look at her history of proposals...says it all.
Just sayin'.

I would not put Ford as "worst Mayor Ever". His title should be "most entertaining Mayor ever".

Per a summary from a Toronto Star article - During his first two years as Mayor he delivered on a few key projects - Making the TTC an essential service was an huge win (where others failed) and took away the right for the TTC to hold the citizens of Toronto hostage (the TTC really fucked a lot of innocent people over their union squabbles. Complete disrespect of their customers); Privatizing garbage was another big win for the city as service levels were as good if not better but the savings were enormous for the city (money that could spent on helping poor folk survive); Cancelling the vehicle tax (a nasty tax aimed at a limited number of people - Toronto should be fair and spread those taxes to all people, not select groups); Trying to get the Scarborough subway going (as much as we bitch about subways, long term transportation needs will meet the needs of tomorrow).

https://www.thestar.com/news/city_h...-legacy-at-toronto-city-hall-a-mixed-bag.html

Sure he had a few faults as well, but they all have.

However, no other mayor in the history of the planet has been as popular and entertaining as Rob was.

Worst mayor ever.
Smoked crack, lied about it, called the press maggots.
Drove drunk, left his wife and kids in poverty.
Killed Transit City.
Put in a 30 year tax for a yet to be started, $3 billion subway station.

Taxes went up under Rob Ford, he was no different except that he made Toronto a laughing stock.
Doug Ford is no better.

FFS that stretch is rarely busy, and I do travel that route frequently.
You know why - because it's poorly constructed. I hate driving that stretch. Let's sink some funds into it to build it up and improve it from a safety perspective. If I'm in Oshawa and I need to get to QEW and Mississauga Road give me the alternative to go DVP Gardiner QEW. Ease some of the ridiculous traffic on the 401/427 corridor. FFS this is a huge city with a shortage of road space. Taking more away is completely asinine.

He called drug dealers and specifically drug dealers cockroaches. And specifically said the 1% of them should be removed to protect the 99% including children and seniors.

Do either you are a liar for posting this or are supporting drug dealers.

…[Star quote omitted, see above]…
However, no other mayor in the history of the planet has been as popular and entertaining as Rob was.
Only a smidge overstated. When they make a Broadway musical — or the YouTube equivalent — about Rob like they did about Fiorello LaGuardia (got an airport named after him too) and Jimmy Walker (a musical and a Bob Hope movie) or even a nursery-rhyme that lasts centuries like Dick Whittington (thrice Lord Mayor of London Town) then maybe a whopper like "… most entertaining Mayor in the history of the planet " can pass without devaluing every wiser judgment you pronounce.

'Sides, don't we all know The Star is nothing but "…lies and fake news"?
