Hey, here's a novel idea, if I'm a terrorist I'll just plow my truck full of fertilizer right through your police barricade, come to a stop underneath 1st Canadian Place and blow all you fricking suits to kingdom come.

There has been a similar 'ring of steel' in London since the early 90's (obviously reactiviated more recently). The London one is outside of the core business district - but was conceived to deal with the IRA who were never into blowing themselves up (although one of two managed it by mistake).

The benefit of it now is that the video technology does assist in tracking down the terrorists.

They quietly pull all the garbage bins from St. Andrews station. Not one on the entire platform.

I'm guessing same thing over at King station. About time N.A. law enforcement use their head than be reactive after the fact. By the time, LE react, the terrorist already moved on to next scheme.

Ring of steel is a good idea. But also active pursue of potential threat is also key in prevention.

Esco, I'm sure many Bay street suits are a*holes. Hope you have lots of cash under your pillow as it would cripple our economy (ie: no credit card, bank machine, import/export grin to halt) for few weeks. Just drive a propane tanker down Yonge street on a Saturday - 88m fireball, 12 second duration - world of hurt and a lot of burning buildings.

Home made explosives (as used in London) and 50,000 gallons of propane or even just petrol - this stuff is easy to do. The tricky part is finding an assh*le willing to pull the pin.

Just to put this in perspective - almost 20,000 people a year die in North America from drunk drivers, you are more likely to die at the hands of a drunk than a terrorist.

You need to park it underground to bring the whole house down.

Toronto has already been attacked by terrorirsts. Unfortunately for them, and fortunately for us, it ended in failure.

You just don't know it.

The RCMP and OPP stopped a terrorist act IN PROGRESS at Pearson aimed at the communications plant. Apparently, this is being kept very quiet.

Definitely explains all the action of late by the police, the politicians, etc.

In Oklahoma, Tim McVeigh only used a cargo van which brought down 1/2 of the State building... I suggested a 48-53' trailer which I believe would cause a blast which could possibly be large enough to bring down 2-4 buildings (and leave a very deep crater!!), and what is left standing would probably have to be torn down anyway. This would cause much more damage than you parking a vehicle underground and damaging one building.
