Really? I would think most large cities have a very big diverse food scene.

Toronto has the most diverse food scene on the planet, according to Tripadvisor data and food experts Chefs Plate.

“To understand which country best embraces the international food scene, meal box delivery company, Chefs Plate, has analyzed the top 20 restaurants in 30 of the most populated cities around the world to reveal the most diverse foodie scenes across the globe,” the company said in a release.

“With almost two-thirds of its top 20 restaurants comprising different international cuisines, Toronto was revealed as the city with the most diverse food scene. Cairo, Egypt and Seoul, South Korea came second with nine different cuisines in the top 20 restaurants.”
The data shows the most popular cuisine was Italian, followed by Japanese and Indian.”
Toronto had the most diverse food scene, followed by Cairo, Seoul, Karachi, Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur, New York City, Hong Kong, and Santiago.

Lima, Peru had the least diverse cuisine in the world.

Regardless of their arbitrary parameters, NYC has to be near the top and definitely more international options than Toronto. Only 20 restaurants in this survey yet there's over 100 countries in the world. How can it possibly be considered representative?

There is no city more diverse than Toronto. Many cities have larger shares of minorities. But it seems that Toronto represents every single country in the world, from every continent. Vancouver, for example is just mostly Chinese and Indians. Even NYC isn't as diverse in terms of the number of countries represented.

With such an incredible variety of foods to chose from, why would anyone want to eat poutine???

No consideration for poutine when I'm in Montreal. Toronto lacks some Canadian flavours, planked Arctic Char is difficult to find here, nor Calgary's spin on Steak Florentine.

Toronto is the enclave of Tibetan cuisine, only Columbus Ohio comes close. I may not have known about it if not for Eddie Huang (Fresh off the Boat). He's chosen to monetize his show about Toronto for Huang's World, I've already seen it on Vice.

Central Ont. between here & there
I would tend to agree with this thought of more food diversity in Toronto or GTA. Canada is known for diversity of cultures. Plus the comments on Vancouver make sense too. 10-12 years ago, waterloo region was ranked 3rd or 4th diverse area, next to GTA, Vancouver & maybe Montreal.

Is that an anecdotal observation or are there statistics?
Actually yours is just as anecdotal. In terms of population demographics Toronto is indeed one if the most Multicultural areas on the planet. The census clearly bears that out. And ethnic populations will always have people who open restaurants. That also bears out as historical fact.

NY being far more expensive(although in recent years Toronto is catching up) would make is less appealing to newer immigrants. Size doesn't mean diversity.

I admitted as such. As well, I made no assertions. I simply said that the result surprised me.

Based on the fact that NYC is at least double the size of Toronto and nobody can deny that it is very cosmopolitan, it's not hard to assume that NYC has more diversity.

It was a polite and appropriate question that I asked Mr. stinky.

I do stand by my point that with over 100 countries in the world, only looking at the top 20 restaurants to determine international diversity is a very flawed parameter.

I’ve had unbelievably good Chinese food in Markham. Food that rivals HK.

I like the food offerings in Toronto.
