To tattoo or not to tatoo...

Rule of thumb: Never do anything you can't undo.

Imagine when you're 65 and that cute little heart on your left tit looks more like a cured ham. What are the girls in the old folks home going to say when you can't remember the guy whose name you tattooed on your butt?

Do you have any tattoos?

"What are the girls in the old folks home going to say"

Not much...given that in my city, most of them will have a few tattoos as well...and given I don't pay much attention to old gossiping biddies now, I surely won't then.

Especially when I really know they're just jealous because the hot geriatric dudes are ignoring the uptight ol' birds in favour of my tattooed ancient self - and begging for my red hot gummers! ;)

Kristine? You've done this the smart way - you're researching something you are thinking about doing, and that's really important when it's permanent!

As far as pain goes, try this; slowly drag a fingernail across the back of your hand with just enough pressure to make a bit of a red mark - that's a similar feeling and similar pain level. In other words, annoying, but definitely not anything to dread.

In fact, if you are one of those folks like me who get sleepy around white noise, you may find staying awake more of a problem than pain!

I don't know about you guys, but I get really turns on by body painting, but then when it comes to something permenent such as a tattoo, it really turn me off. There is just some kind of masculine element in it which I can't seem to describe. Well, let me put it this way.. when I see tattoo on a gal, it remind me of the macho, tough, and sometimes homosexual guys in Oz. Anyway, that's just me. But if you really wanna get a tattoo, try this out first. Take the tattoo design/drawing, put it on your fridge door. After 3 months, look at it again and see if you still wants it. I really suggest you to do this because a tattoo is permenent (or expensive to get rid of), and you should get something you truely want.

No dude...you missed my point.

A woman's body actually has a woman inside and is not a thing. ;)

Any tattoo wears much better if your priority is that it reflects something about yourself, and is not something based on your interpretation of what you think other people may want right at this particular moment in time.

I've got four, and there's only one flash piece that I got in Mexico. One is a political, another is philosophical, one is a symbol of a friend (these I designed myself) and the last was done to mark my living in Mexico and learning another language.

A tattoo doesn't need to have a 'heavy' meaning - but you're the one looking at it for the next 50 years, so it's best to please yourself before worrying too much about other people.

.
I think you are missing the point , yes you are a person and are valued as such , but your body is a body and he is saying it is beautiful as such.

I really don't mind small tattoos and i don't expect anyone to care about my opinion on them. It is your choice , you have to live with them.

The thing is I really don't think tattoos add anything to a man or women. If you need a tattoo to remind you of something or make a statement then you have a short memory. Just don't see the oint.

I'm one of those types who also doesn't see the point of a tattoo. If you wish to adorn yourself, use jewellery & makeup. But I don't see the point of permanently altering a portion of your body, however small it may be.

I always find it odd how some beautiful women (& men for that matter) choose to scar their bodies with tattoos. Just doesn't work for me.

Dear God...it's a Missed Point a Rama!

Lama ding dong!

Just as long as you don't tattoo, "Oh yeah? Screw you too, cop!" on your forehead, you should be just fine.

Sometimes you will need a touch up - for instance, one of mine has a tiny bit that's much lighter than the rest because I basically had a wee divot taken out of it when I had my wrestling match with a Mexican bus.

Also - if it is exposed to the sun a lot without sunscreen, it may fade, and number one...don't pick at the damn thing while it's healing, or you will be in for a touch up for sure. BTW, decent shops will usually do a minor touch up at no charge if you did scratch your itchy tattoo just a little bit...

I think the idea with tattoos in general is some people like them, some don't, and each side thinks the other is bananas. Kind of like Liberals ;)

Not really . Not that I dislike them but they don't add anything for me . Neutral at best .

I'm wondering what the age range is for the people posting that they abhor tattoos. I'm curious as to whether it's a generational issue.

I love tattoos....when done well. That does not have to mean when done small, or out of sight. There is nothing in the world worse than a bad tattoo. However, I love a woman with ink as long as the tattoo is tasteful and feminine. No barbed wire armbands or tasmanian devils. That's just wrong. But a sexy woman with a feminine tattoo drives me wild. Lil'Miss (my wife in case you haven't been paying attention) just got a new one on Saturday. I absolutely love it. I'll try and figure out how to post a pic of it.

Anyway, to each his own, I suppose. People for and against tattoos are pretty polarized, so it basically boils down to a matter of opinion.

no tat please

at the risk of being flamed...."tats are a permanent mark of the lower class"...not my words but I tend to agree...a tiny discrete tat is one thing but the celtic stuff on the arms is a turn-off.

Tattoos last longer than marriages. So if you decide to get one, make sure you can live with it for the rest of your life.

I'm not even going to begin to tell you how ignorant and pompous that remark is. I know a whole lot of people who have never seen the inside of a tattoo parlor who could do with a bit more class.

some are even on this board.

I don't know anyone who has seen a beautiful woman without a tattoo and thought "Wow, she'd look great with a tattoo."
I do know people (men and women) who have seen a beautiful woman with a tattoo and thought "Wow, she'd look great, if it weren't for those tattoos."

Kristine, if you're still thinking about it, you probably shouldn't do it, because once you do, it's expensive to undo.

Get a temperorary tatoo that lasts for a few days, and see how you like it.

If you change your mind, you'll save the money and the pain of having a permanent one removed.

...."tats are a permanent mark of the lower class".

I think you just outed yourself, class-wise.

Hee hee! We should keep track of this stuff - maybe some kind of a identifying code under our names ;)

I'd be a likes rap/likes tattoos/thinks SP should charge whatever they want/Coke not Pepsi...

The thing to remember, is that the tatoo is for yourself, not for strangers who are going to be judging you on the street. I've had three tats done and it does hurt a little, but it's nothing unbearable. You may have to get it touched up eventually, but we're talking years from now. If you get one, the best way to increase the longevity is to ALWAYS put a high SPF sunscreen over it whenever you are outside. No mater what anyone tells you, do not put neosporin on it afterwards, as it promotes scabbing. Your tatoo, if cared for properly will not scab, only peel a little. A + D ointment for the first 2-3 days, then curel lotion. If you really want to know what people think, ask the people in your personal life, as they are more likely to be your peers than the people here. Most of all, do what your gut tells you and don't worry what anyone else thinks. If you have any more tatoo questions, you can PM me.

Good Luck!
Miss
