It’s common but a reason to visit a GP. Has a wide series of causes ranging from neurological vascular to more commonly primary ear. Many of the causes are benign. But certainly check in with your MD regardless

Had it for years. Horrible condition. Screw the jerks that say "just get a white noise machine" Start with your family doctor. You will be referred to and ENT guy. Hearing will be be tested. Then told no known cause, no known cure.

I second that... learn to live with it

Have had it for many years. Kind of white noise that I only notice when I'm in a completely silent environment.

Need a white noise machine to get to sleep because of it.

Due most likely to my playing my electric guitar through a 100 watt Marshall stack on Vol=8 in my basement in my younger years. An audiologist confirmed I have hearing loss in the frequency spectrum that would be affected by that. Loved that Les Paul/Marshall sound though! :)

Yep, the result of 15 years serving with the Ministry of Guns and Bombs and Big Kabooms. At times it's forgettable, but it seems to recur annoyingly while trying to determine whether the call I'm hearing is a starling or a mockingbird doing a damned good impression of one. Just last summer a gust of wind whacked an errant canoe paddle (not mine) into my head and I couldn't hear anything but whistling for the rest of the day. Should ask my doctor about it, but she's so cute that all I can think about is a prostate check. Yes, I'm that much of a wretch.

Accurate, I worked in a noise pollution environment for many years. I quit that job to save my sanity. It's dissipated slowly over time but it's still there. Don't crank heavy metal in your car and avoid Michael Bay films in surround sound, or any loud films for that matter.

Forget the white noise machine, this works for me.

Yep had it since I am 8 years old, so 20 years of living with it, it get worst for me with stress and when Im anxious
As people said above you have to learn to live with it, if its really bad there is a possibility to get jaws surgery but its invasive, painful , tae forever to heal and not cover.
Im one of those that white noise machine doesnt do anything but im so use to it that its there, I know it but nothing cant be done since there is no actual cure

My story.

Early 20's noticed ringing in my ears, went to see a specialist, was told I had a condidtion called otosclerosis (google it) had surgery to replace defective bone, improved hearing and all but fixed ringing. Fast forward 20 some years noticed ringing in the other ear so had the surgery again and it fixed it but the ringing returned 2 years later. For some odd reason it really bothers me sometimes and not other times although the ringing is always present. Thought about trying this place, has good reviews https://metro-hearing-tinnitus.com/

Ear specialists I saw were Dr. Jerry Chapnik mt siania, and Dr. Gerry Halyk markham general, need referrals

Sorry for bumping this thread, but I've recently started suffering from tinnitus, and it is great to find out other people's experiences. Thanks for sharing! At an audiology clinic, I was suggested several ways of treatment. I decided to try Otoharmonics. So, I will wear custom-fit earbuds that allow listening to the personalized sound match on an Apple iPod touch. Did anyone try Otoharmonics or other treatments?

I can't hear anything if sleep on my left side. Audiologists suggest hearing aids to help. I've learned to live with it, probably have about 30% hearing in my right ear because of it.

I've had Tinnitus for years. It used to keep me up at night and then I finally went to an ear doctor who told me that there wasn't much I could do about it. Oddly enough, it was hearing that I wouldn't be able to ever get rid of it that made me able to ignore it. Nowadays I like to pretend that the sound is actually crickets on a hot summer's night (and they're singing me to sleep).

They do say that anything that gets your blood pumping will increase the volume of the ringing so there are some things you can avoid in an effort to dull the noise before bed (sex, exercise, smoking, getting into late night online arguments, etc.,.). I also find a white noise machine set pretty loudly helped drown out the ringing.

I need my white noise machine to get to sleep at night. I find that if I listen to loud music it makes my tinnitus worse, so I try to avoid that.

I was just watching a video regarding the thyroid and sex drive.

At one point one of the podcasters mentioned she knew someone who had low ferritin (iron) levels and had tinnitus as a result.

Simple supplementation cured the problem after a number of weeks,

I've had it since I was 20. One night I was super stressed sleeping and my ear suddenly popped and bam had it ever since.

It really feels like a sick joke; i now have it in both ears.

I have tinnitus, sleep apnea, celiac disease. Other than that I'm super healthy 😆

So my tinnitus about a week ago all of a sudden got worse. Got louder. If felt like when I lifted my head up off the pillow quickly to make adjustment to pillow position. Is there truly nothing that can be done out there? Are there any devices from hearing centers where one can where to negate the high pitch constant ring noise that I hear. My concern is if it will get worse even later.
