A Timmins woman has been arrested after police say she pretended to have cancer in order to solicit charity money in her community.
Over the last several months, Jessica Ann Leeder, 21, has allegedly been pretending to have both stomach and leg cancer.
Police arrested her Friday and charged her with fraud over $5, 000, but haven’t revealed exactly how much money she’s accused of defrauding.
She is being held in police custody pending a bail hearing. Authorities believe there may be more victims of fraud in this case.
This news breaks the same week as Burlington native Ashley Kirilow plead guilty to fraud over $5, 000.
Kirilow was charged after it came to light she shaved her head and plucked her eyebrows and eyelashes in order to appear like a chemotherapy patient.
After having a benign breast lump removed, she claimed she had breast, ovarian and numerous other types of cancer, eventually saying she had only months to live.
She allegedly received thousands in donations after starting a bogus charity, “Change For A Cure,” and even received a free trip to Disney World.
