When will the phase-out of inefficient light bulbs come into effect?

The bulbs with a higher wattage, such as the 75 and 100 watt, will be subject to the regulation on January 1, 2014. For the lower wattage bulbs such as the 40 and 60 watts, the regulation takes effect on December 31, 2014. These effective dates apply to date of manufacture.

I'm heading over to Home Depot with the truck tomorrow.

We replaced most incandescent with Noma compact flourescent bulbs from Canadian Tire a few years back. I don't think any lasted more than a year.... course we didn't keep the receipt

I would like to see a full environmental impact study on CFL lighting. when you throw away an incandescent, a bit of metal and a bit of glass. when CFL gets tossed, there's alot of stuff. even if we reached a point whre 100% of the bulbs were recycled, not 100% of the bulb is recyclable....and, they don't last as long as claimed .

How about oven lights, are they banned? The heat produced by an oven lamp is one of the reasons why you use it. I use them to crisp my meringues, or dry bread out to make bread crumbs. Leave the oven light on, creates a good warm dry environment for that sort of thing.

Can't imagine an LED or CFL oven light, if they even work at high temperatures like that, being as effective.

Exactly. I doubt whether any politician is aware of life cycle analysis.

awesome!! can't wait till this becomes a household item. I hate cold white colored light bulbs
Can you buy shares in this company, or is it privately owned by the guy in the video and his partners?

Why would I pledge a $69 donation for just a bulb?

ummmm guess you don't know how kickstarters work... these are independent designers/startup people who invest their own time to provide better services or products.. minus the corportation crap. You don't have to donate... people who believe in the work they do and what they offer will. Thanks to people like them, many of us are able to afford some products that we would otherwise have to pay an arm or leg to buy, or in many cases are never made available because big corporations don't want to invest in something that'll eat into their profits,.

but in this case, the $69 gives you a lighbulb if/when things get off the ground... commit to 4 or more and you can get them at $49 each...

Okay that's great (brilliant inventors btw), but it's still too expensive. How many people will donate to feel good about themselves before making it economically viable for the masses?

i guess these politicians don't have garages. or don't care. i won't need many. i'll get 4 x 200watts and i'll be ok for a long time. next step will be to eliminate cfl and only allow led. i wonder who's making money off this?

well, to make the kickstart a go they were asking for $100,000... they have received $1.3million so far...

but i do agree with you... wayyy too expensive for a lightbulb, even if it is guaranteed for 25 years... who needs a lightbulb for 25 years? you never know what bigger/better idea will come down the pipe in 5, 10 years
