GTA & Thereabouts...
Anyone else getting the feeling that it's time to cash out of S&P 500 and Nasdaq ETFs? It was easy for a time... Lots of money made (on paper).

I'm in the camp that the public 'Joe Schmoe' investor is about to get taken for a ride.

I exited most of my VOO ETF the end of last year and put the funds towards XIU. VOO is up ~9% YTD, XIU is up ~8% YTD.

US ETFs still have alot of upside depending on the new Fed head.

The short answer is yes. After an unbelievable run, I have closed my positions in the top three bluechip Canadian banks, RY, TD, NA. But this decision suits my own individual strategy. It does NOT apply to everyone. Do your own DD.

The big question is what do you do with the proceeds of sale?

Where can you find safety from the possibility of a worst case scenario, and still get a return higher than inflation and taxes?

True. But as one ages, the primacy of protection of capital supercedes any compunction to seek higher and higher returns.
Here's a clip on Jeremy Grantham. People should heed him, for the sake of the generations to come after us, on his warnings about climate change and his strategies on manoevering through bubbles.

I think the time to cash out is likely later this year (Oct/Nov). But who the fuck knows really. These markets seem to be defying logic and are not reflective of economic reality for the average person. Layoffs, inflation, low growth, high deficits & debt, uncertainty with global conflicts etc. The markets just don't seem to be phased too much by these events.

Still I think there are sectors that will remain resilient despite a mini crash in the markets. Cybersecurity, chip manufacturers, healthcare, utilities, national defense and consumer staples. I may also take advantage of the dip/flattening out of precious metals by shifting even more of my portfolio there.

You shift to sectors that are market recession proof. Companies with strong fundamentals. Companies who have necessary goods. Companies who have secured government contracts. And precious metals.

Got my ass kicked today - Markets are blood red. A few more days like today and I might start to slowly transfer funds to utilities and away from tech.

I have the same 3 banks except I have no intentions or plans to close. I do rebalance though into T-Bills.
