What's up with the Toronto newspapers. Domi gets his picture in the paper every day. Are there no other Toronto Maple Leafs worthy of having a picture in the paper? He must have a great PR rep as this is beyond ridiculous. He is overpaid for his skills on the ice in relation to his playing achievments. I acknowledge he has stepped up to fight but other than that not much or is that all there is about the guy......just a hard headed guy who can throw punches ? Please Star,Sun stop glorifying this bum.

I guess most of the readers don't think he's a bum.
?
I'm sorry - which of these overpaid pussies who jumped ship and are now playing for some European squad SHOULD we glorify?

I'm a Leafs fan but I'm not a fan of Domi.
What's the attraction with this neanderthal?

Yeah, Niedermayer really displayed his class trying to hack Peter Worrell's head off.
Oh, wait - it *was* Peter Worrell. He's a no-class thug. He probably deserved it.

How in the hell did Tie Domi end up in the World All Stars?

Who is funding this team? Is it the players' agents' agency?

By the way, heard Tie wanted to go to Sweden (follow his buddy, Mats) but the Swedish league rejected him. Big surprise!!!!

I've met Domi on a number of occasions, and he's been totally classy.

It's like, when people are saying how good a guy Pierre Berton was, and then a bunch of people want to jump all over him because "they know" he was an ass, or "they have this story how" he was rude.
Who gives a shit?
I'm sure I could drum up several dozen people who say the same thing about Corson or Gilmour or Mother Teresa.
Get over it, people.

If you don't like Tie Domi on the ice, fine. You're entitled to your opinion of him as a hockey player. None of you know him personally. Get a life.

kathleen, i definitely have to side with you on this one. i have been at a few social gatherings with tie present, and even had a few friendly soccer games with him. he is not very socially, how should i say it....smart! he is a little too "into himself".

i gotta give you props, for pointing out the fact that domi is not in the league of former heavyweights, such as bob probert, and even the leafs own, wendel clark. domi did very well in his younger days, for a guy his size. i would say he definitely could chuck 'em, one of the better fighters in his heyday, but.....how did a talentless guy like this parlay his, ahem...."skills", into such a contract (i believe approx 2 mill. per?). he is a poster boy for owners not being able to control themselves.

Domi, and players like him, are paid partly on their ability to earn. He fills seats, sells merchandise, MLSE resells clips, highlight videos, sellout public appearances. Look at jerseys in crowd - Sundin, Belfour, Domi. These, and more, enter into the business decision whether to bring a guy in, and is usually reflected in contract clauses regarding compensation. To paraphrase, he is a poster boy for owners being able to earn a profit.

Ranger, I doubt you and the 'Tie-miester' are on first name basis. Yet you think from your many encounter with him he is classy, and thus that is the gospel. That anyone else with a differant meeting or optinion must have made it up, or be refering to only on ice Domi.

I would agree with you if someone said "i heard". But I've seen Domi ack like a dick in person, and its always when some form of media isn't around. I don't like him as a hockey player, his 8 goal seasons, and 'Hey Perott, mind taking this one' approach to fighting anymore suck. He's not an all star, or even a talented fighter. For that you would seek out past greats Propert or Wendel. In person, I've not seen the nice classy Domi you have. Maybe I need to meet him when a camera is around.

People give a shit because he is obviously over rated, and is about himself more then the team. Watching his movie WHAT IT TAKES will ensure no less. Do you really think after hockey, this guy will be well respected like Nick Kypreos?
I don't think he's classy. I said he was classy when I've encountered him. The same thing applies to you and everyone else who encounters someone a small number of times on a very casual basis. To conclude that that person always acts that way is probably not accurate.

I hate personal gossip about people - especially when the source is NOT close.

Frankly, it really seems like you don't like him as a hockey player and have translated that into not liking him as a person.

I know tons of people who don't like Nick Kypreos (based on exactly the same sort of minimal interaction that you've had with Domi), and think he's a total asshole as a person and was as a player. Same thing.

Hmmm i have met Tie on several occassion and he has always been the same with or without media......... he is the "same guy" i played Jr. A with. I mean 90% of all the hockey playing jocks i have ever played with are very into themselves. i know 3 professional players very very well with 2 of them being relatives and they are retired now and still 50 year old teenage jocks that will never grow up and say the most in appropriate thing at the most in appropriate time.
I don't think Tie is a great player but everyone has their role. He has lasted a long time for someone with no talent and that is a hack at best on ice. He is typical of a certain breed of men and women. Love them or hate them don't judge them, appreciate what they offer for you to be thankful of. When you make an NHL team or score 6 goals in a NHL season or make i to a field where there are maybe 1500 people in the world at that level then try not to have an ego about it.
PS Tie played how many games with a broken hand and 18 with 4 broken ribs. How many of you would have run for the bus wiht broken ribs let alone played a game like pro hockey.

The difference is - I'm not gossiping about the guy.
I find it distasteful.

Even though Domi is a fan favorite here in Toronto, and parts of Europe he is nowhere near a player of all-star calibre.

He was just willing to go play with his IMG managed buddies, but if everyone was willing and able to go he'd be left at home.

Domi arrogant?

I'm surprised that some have experienced Tie Domi as arrogant and conceited.

How can an old midget who scores 8 goals a year (none in the clutch) be arrogrant ??

Almost as arrogant as someone knocking someone that made it in a professional field they could never have made it in....... if u can walk the walk then talk... but otherwise who are you to pass judgement on another.

He's arrogant because he knows he's lucky enough to even be playing professionally. That and the fact that he's overpaid, very ugly and resembles a troll.
