Joe Montana always threw a tight wobbler
'Big Sky' was sort of the Greg Maddux of football. He didn't throw the ball with much velocity, but he threw it accurately to the proper location, ie: where the receiver was going to be, when the ball arrived. I softly thrown ball is much easier to catch without breaking stride. There are no statistics kept which would back this up, but I think close to half, if not more, of Montana's 40,551 career passing yards were achieved after the catches were made.
Brett Favre holds the NFL career record for most passes intercepted, (336). I think at least half of them were from deflections off the chests of his intended receivers, Because Brett threw the ball as hard as he could, on every pass, regardless of the distance.
Steve Grogan, on the other hand, had an uncanny knack of throwing passes directly at defensive backs, when there were no receivers anywhere near them.
