Been getting some disturbing messages as of late from numbers I don't recognize. Dudes saying they are from the cartel and that I owe them money cause I supposedly wasted the time of one of their girls (I haven't seen anyone though I did try texting a few people, none got back to me) I know this is often a scare scam but is getting 2 text from 2 diffrent numbers on the same day cause for concern?

My vote is for Scam.
How many criminals identify themselves as being from the cartel (which cartel?)
Are you using a burner phone? Although any phone can likely be traced if the tracer has all the resources necessary, how do you think they are going to track you down? Did they ask for a specific amount?

Gotta go, Service Canada has just suspended/cancelled my Social Insurance Number. Got to straighten that out ASAP.

They didn't say they were but the images they used implied it and a reverse pic search confirmed that's the message they wanted to convey. Asked for 2500 in the first text didn't mention the amount in the second text from the second number. Said they know my movements but didn't mention an address or names

Again. are you using a burner phone?

How do they even know you actually read their text, I routinely delete emails and texts without ever reading them if I don't recognize the number they appear to be coming from.

I have even gotten texts and calls on my burner phone threatening me in Chinese, not really sure what they want, but I read somewhere that this scam involves threatening to send people back to China.

Gotta go, the "Credit Card Dept of the Bank" has just noticed some suspicious activity on my account.

I assume they got the number from what was probably a fake ad I texted or who knows. I've been getting fake calls and text fir years now (including the ones in chinese) but nothing like this before

Holy shit, I got the same call you got. Than 20 mins later it was the same voice callinag me from cbsa saying that my package has been seized at the border and theres a warrant out for my arrest. I got so scared that I booked a 12 hr session at the wee house in case I would be going to prison for years. Ever since I moved into the cave by the creek in the forest by my house the cartel and cbsa have not been able to find me! Those suckers

On Facebook. There is a group called tech-savvy.
They posted a number that you can enter in your cell and it blocks scammers
Sorry I don't have it to share

I got a text from them 1 night they said I owed 2k from no showing their girls...they said I had 24hrs to get them the money or they would kill me and my family. Then they sent a couple pics of severed heads. I laughed and told them to come on over anytime. And I would be waiting for them.

Definite scam. I also inquired about prices with no commitments. Some weirdo from a US number began texting me threats saying that I was "flagged" in their system. He went on to accuse me of wasting their time, costing them money, and began accusing me of contacting them for blackmail purposes which lead to several girls quitting.

They laid all on pretty thick and then began attempting to extort me for baseless accusations that they drummed up. The texts began threatening that if I didn't pay 2k I would be harmed and they would involve my family. After I didn't reply they began getting more aggressive and started threatening to kill my family. At that point I blocked the number because it was a joke.

Some side notes are that I noticed that the dates where most people received the same threats are similar, pretty much over a 2 or 3 day period. The ads which were posted all went down shortly after the threats. There were around 4 of them with the same writing style. The fact that they threatened multiple people on similar dates in the same area code sticks out because the area code they contacted is used for several cities. The ads were actually posted in one city, but I noticed they had probably googled the area code and chose a random city, or the most populated for that code. Shortly after the threats they had posted on the Hamilton craigslist that they were looking to hire someone to hurt somebody. I can only assume that they were not from the area because they posted in a different city from where the threats were directed, but the same area code. This was probably a feeble attempt to mentally coerce anyone who might be looking at boards and stress some of the victims out. I highly doubt anyone is going to hire muscle for 2k, especially when no monetary value is actually owed.

Anyway, nothing happened. I highly recommend protecting yourself by not using your actual number because incidents like these do happen. I am not going to speculate on who it might have been, but they did claim they were an escort agency, which I highly doubt. The photos which were posted looked way too good to be true, so they probably do that on purpose to collect as many numbers as possible before starting the scam.
