I'm on my second Yukon and they've been great trucks with very few problems. The mileage in the city sucks, but it's not bad on the highway at all... I often get 20 mpg on the secondary highways. It tows well (I pull a 4500# boat) and is very stable.

I tested an Expedition before I bought my second Yukon. I think it was larger inside, especially in the back seat, but it seemed to be less well built. Ultimately, I chose another Yukon because the first one had been such a good vehicle. I had almost 300,000 km over 5 years on it before it started to give me grief.

The Excursion dwarfs my Yukon. You might consider a Yukon or Expedition with a Thule box on the roof for the occassional time you need more room...
You'd better to check to see if your new Yukon has a plastic intake manifold or not.

If it does, get ready to buy a new engine at about 120,000 km.

Your old Yukon was built with a metal engine. GM has since figured a way to build temporary plastic engines.

Good luck

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of the import trucks. They're probably much better built, but if I'm going import, I'd want a Land Rover/Range Rover or the Merc G-Unit. I feel nausious when I'm in import cars/trucks for some reason.

I've driven the Tahoe/Yukon, and the GMC brand is more preferential to me. It's the little differences that sway me. But I'm still leaning towards the Expedition because it actually looks the best to me. But opinions and experience matter more. I've had nothing but problems with my 94 Stang, but my 2000 is so much better, even in convertible form, that I can still think about getting into a FORD. If my 2000 Stang suffered any of the problems my 94 did, I'd never look at another FORD again. If it wasn't for being a totally new model (ie. first year) I'd probably consider the F150 a lot more. But first year quality lacks in most vehicles. Let alone North American ones.

I found the Range Rover to be a tough ride. As far as the G Class goes, it's the biggest waste of money on the road.

I don't know about the plastic engines, but I know a couple of people who are very happy with their Yukon/Denali's. Personally if I went with something other than a Toyota, I'd probably go with the Yukon.

I'd really like to get a Denali XLT, but not at 10 grand plus over the Expedition. GM has come a long way, but they're still not worth that much.

My 2 cents

I spent quite a bit of time driving a rented Expedition - did countless test drives of the Suburban and Sequoia (among others) and bought a Land Cruiser. It's awesome! It handles much better than the American vehicles (and is quieter). Did consider the Lexis but didn't think burlwood looked good on a working vehicle. Opted for the nav system - which I'm addicted to.

This is my second cruiser - had one in Australia where it's not a luxury car, didn't have leather or any of the toys but did have an altimeter (like you need that in Oz) and a second fuel tank (did use that more than once).

No wind effect on the cruiser at all, sounds like a sedan at 75 mph. Get’s about 17 MPG (I do a fair bit of hwy driving).

It's actually smaller and more expensive than the Sequoia - made in Japan instead of KY.

Good luck.

An interesting segment on CNN today... the original F150 got the worst crash rating of any full size vehicle when tested by the Insurance Safety Board, in spite of getting a 5 star rating in Gov't. tests. I think the difference was the speed of the crash. The new 150 on the other hand passed both tests and the ISB gave it their highest rating and commended Ford for re-engineering the truck so successfully. Surprisingly (to me anyway) Ford will continue to make and sell the old model calling it the 150 Heritage, because people "like it". If you saw the crash test, you'ld think twice! The cab just folded in around the driver...

I don't care about the "coolness" factor. I don't need to impress anyone but me. But I totally agree with seeing a woman behind the wheel of a pick-up (more so than an SUV). Some women look so fuckin hot that I've actually dreamed about bangin a chick while standin in the bed. Maybe that's how I should base my decision...How many women can I bang in the Expedition vs how many women can I bang standing in the pick-up bed!
