Well done. Everyone has different opinions on the subject and everyone has different circumstances as well in terms of driving habits, distance, etc. I am not sure if you will be saving the money that you put into the purchase of the vehicle will offset the amount of gas you will be spending. The reliabliity (battery) is something that must be addresssed as well. the underground parking lot and I use my vehicle once every week to two weeks. I walk or take the TTC. The benefits of living downtown I suppose.

I was commuting from Mississauga to downtown Toronto for a number of years and I truly love Mississauga. I was in my vehicle for about 2 1/2 hours to 3 hours per day and that was just the commute to work and back home again. I told my fiancee that we are moving right downtown as she works there as well and we can both walk to work now. I sold one of my vehicles and sometimes we drove in together and now I only have the one vehicle which I barely use. We had spent so much money on gas and parking per month as we could have easily purchased another brand new vehicle.

Now that the price of gas went to $1.20 per litre and there are predicting an end of summer price of $1.50 per litre, I am absolutely thrilled to be where I am now.

Time is something you will never get back. That is what is most important to me. I truly don't understand why people live in Barrie, Hamilton, etc, and commute into the city so they can have the "dream" home that they always wanted regardless if it was far from their workplace. What possible time during the week do you have to actually enjoy your home? I know when I was living in Mississauga (and I had a great home in a great area), there was not much time for anything during the week.

If you want to feel good about saving the planet, then walk, bicycle or use public transit.

If you want to feel smug about saving the planet, buy a hybrid.

Just to get off the thread a bit the commuters who travel from Barrie, Peterborough Kitchener etc are paying the price for getting what they want. Lawyerman is happy living downtown large numbers of people are not . They pay the price to live where they want. They also don't have to put up with the PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF MILLAR .

Sorry just a quick rant

Indeed landscaper. I would LOVE to live on the outskirts of the city and have property much larger than the condo that I have now. Don't get me wrong, I love my condo but who wouldn't want more space? If you read my post to fruition, I said that I really enjoyed living in Mississauga but I will no longer sacrifice travel time for personal time. I am not saying that everyone should live in downtown Toronto but consider the time you actually spend on the road.

Cheers.
