What actually IS your definition of "soft on crime"?

I'm curious about this. :D
My definition of "soft on crime" is allowing criminals to run rampant in the community, and when locked behind bars, run the jail system like their own personal playground.

Example:

A repeat car thief that almost murdered a man getting bail all within the span of two weeks.

The jokes write themselves with some posters.

She is out on bail which is asinine but not unexpected as the courts have heavy pressure on them to release on bail as much as possible for cost savings. She seems like she is a continuing danger to public safety with numerous chargers and blatant disregard for human life which strongly implies that she might breach her $3000 surety but I guess a judge didn’t see it that way.
Maybe she made a plea with the crown, maybe she has become a rat and might be safer in jail as she could get wacked, or she is a lowest of the low bottom feeder in a high level organized crime and can’t really sing too much more because she doesn’t know too much.
She will be back on the streets in no time with our current legal system.

Keep in mind that the second bail release was for an alleged offense which occurred prior to her first arrest. It's not as if she tried to steal another car after receiving bail the first time. If she's already made a deal to testify against her accomplices, this second bail release makes sense.

I don't know if this is still the case, but usually an accused is obliged to pay $10% of the bail amount when release, so $3,000 bail means $300 out of her pocket - that's about 167 hours of babysitting money, at $18 per hour.

You don't actually have to put up the 10%. The only time you have to pay anything is if the bail conditions get violated. Also based on today's arrests it pretty clear she is cooperating against her co conspirators.
Reason #6 for 'Why there are no women in Mafia families'.

It's ironic, but not surprising that cops give preferential treatment to accused who rat out their accomplices, except for when other cops are the perps.
