I agree with you that as viruses evolve they get more contagious, but generally less lethal (they don’t want to kill their hosts).
That said, we need to ensure that everyone who needs (the elderly, immunocompromised) or wants a vaccine should have access.
I think choice should be an option as the virus changes.

This is not true.
It *can* happen, but it isn't actually any kind of rule or even the general case.

You are correct- it’s certainly not any sort of rule.
Lots of disagreement by experts, but it seems to be how this one is going- though the impact of vaccines on lethality is certainly something that needs to be appreciated.

There is also the general level of immunity going up in the population.
It is often as much the target population gets more resistant than the original evolves to get milder.
But it all depends on what evolutionary pressures are in play.
As long as COVID has a good pathway to transmit before people get really sick, it has next to no pressure to become milder.
