If you have not seen this show you have missed out on what I would say is perhaps the best show on TV history. It ran for 5 seasons and did not get the accolades that other shows like the Sopranos got but if you rent or buy it it's worth every cent.

I would have to agree with you. Saw the last 2 seasons only but it was compelling - the kind of TV that is rare because it will never generate ratings that the networks need to keep a show running that long. Thankfully one of the US cable networks ( HBO, Showtime?) had it and have a history of producing shows like this and keeping them going despite mediocre or worse ratings.

My son and I have made it through the first two seasons so far and I have the next three waiting. Excellent show. Lots of good story lines and character development. Just enough humor thrown in so you know they don't take themselves too seriously.

Just my .02 cents thoughts..

Hell Yeah! I totally agree with the other posts, but not sure it wins the best show hands down, other than that. I really liked this series, after watching the 1st season at a friends house one evening. The next day I did a little digging online to see how many seasons were available to the public, and went out to the local stores to see if they carry them in stock. It was a battle finding them, but I was able to acquire all 5 seasons. After that I stayed in all weekend and watched the remaining 4 season of the show. I normally don't do this, but is a well put series and this one was one of them. I totally enjoyed it. It was a great show and was a little upset off that it was not honored for a 6th season.

I would like to put up another show which ironically was filmed in Canada, but good luck finding the whole series on DVD. The show is called ReGenesis.

Yes, HBO/Showcase/Showtime is where its at. Also check out Brotherhood, Californication and Big Love.

Also, The Corner, is a great mini series, but very hard to find. Let me know if you do.

Have to agree, without a doubt. There have naturally been other great TV shows, but I don't think there has ever been one with so many unique characters with so much depth. I remember hearing Barack Obama saying that the "Omar" (gay gangster that rips off drug dealers:eek: ) character was the most interesting that he has ever seen on TV. Here are three of my favourtite scenes from the show:

"Six Feet Under" gets my vote as the all-time best...although "The Wire" is right up there.

I am not a huge TV guy but The Wire was a great series. I rented the first season then bought the last 4.

Bought the complete series box set for xmas. Just an excellent series. Not The Sopranos but in many ways an excellent ensemble cast. Recommend this to those who enjoy these series.

I loved The Wire, it was so good. I liked the Sopranos and Big Love and so forth, but they are fantasy, life is not really like that. But The Wire stuck me as so realistic and believable. My wife is addicted to CSI, but CSI is so fake compared to The Wire.

Almost all the HBO series are excellent....

I think I'd have to rank Sopranos a notch above The Wire.....

And maybe Band of Brothers tied with The Sopranos....

And Rome not too far behind The Wire...

Dexter is good....Rank The Shield even with Dexter....The last season of The Shield ended real strong....One of the best Season Finales for any show (though The Wires may have been better)....

Not quite as raw as the Wire (thanks to network TV) but without this show the Wire may never have been made - consider it the network test run / blueprint (same writers and producers; same city and basic stories/characters): Homicide: Life on the Street. Best. Network. Drama. Ever. Especially the early seasons.

Anyone know where I can get the complete series + the TV movie on DVD?

Homicide:Life on the Street was the best network drama ever I do agree.

I have been an HBO subscriber (in the states) for about ten years; having a chance to see all seasons/all shows of the Wire was one of the reasons I paid a premium for the channel...

Almost. I challenge any heterosexual man to watch a season of Tell Me You Love Me without questioning your own existence. But my wife liked it, so I guess it is just a matter of taste.
