Damn that is too bad!

First Keith Moon, now this. Well, I'll always remember that great Who song.

Pictures of Lily

I used to wake up in the morning
I used to feel so bad
I got so sick of having sleepless nights
I went and told my dad

He said, 'Son now here's some little something'
And stuck them on my wall
And now my nights ain't quite so lonely
In fact I, I don't feel bad at all

Pictures of Lily made my life so wonderful
Pictures of Lily helped me sleep at night
Pitcures of Lily solved my childhood problems
Pictures of Lily helped me feel alright

Pictures of Lily
Lily, oh Lily
Lily, oh Lily
Pictures of Lily

And then one day things weren't quite so fine
I fell in love with Lily
I asked my dad where Lily I could find
He said, 'Son, now don't be silly'

'She's been dead since 1929'
Oh, how I cried that night
If only I'd been born in Lily's time
It would have been alright

Pictures of Lily made my life so wonderful
Pictures of Lily helped me sleep at night

For me and Lily are together in my dreams
And I ask you, 'Hey mister, have you ever seen'
'Pictures of Lily?'

Holy Sh*t

Now that is depressing news. He was only 57.

When I was younger, I loved listening to Entwistle's single albums, ie 'Smash Your Head Against the Wall' and 'Whistle Rhymes'. "I believe in everything" from the former album could be a skeptic's theme song:

______________________________________________
I Believe in Everything

Have you ever had the feeling that you've been this place before
But you haven't, not in this life
You've seen it, you've done it, you've heard it all before
But you haven't, not in this life.

Do you believe in Santa Claus and loving at first sight
I hope you do, cause I do
Do you believe in ghosts that rattle chains at dead of night
I hope you do, cause I do.

Cause I believe in everything
Cause that's the simplest way for me to be
I believe in everything
To believe in everything you hear and see.

Cause I believe in everything
Cause that's the simplest way for me to be
I believe in everything
To believe in everything you hear and see.

Have you ever had the feeling that you've been this place before
But you haven't, not in this life
You've seen it, you've done it, you've heard it all before
But you haven't, not in this life.

Do you believe in witchcraft, Heaven and Hell, King Kong
Reincarnation, fairies at the bottom of the garden
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, goblins, ghouls and witches
Things that go bump in the night
Telepathy, eternal youth, Mickey Mouse, Father Christmas.

Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it you would even say it glows
All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names...

What happened to him??

That is too bad.

The Who were without a doubt a huge influence on my youth.

They were music with meaning, creativity, and soul.

They appealed to many from different walks.

Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
Your right Spiker, IMO they were much better than the Beatles. I would put Who's Next, or Quadrophenia, up against any Beatles album.

John Entwhistle ranks up there with Jack Bruce among the greatest bass players of all time! And Who's Next ranks among the greatest rock albums of all time! A sad, sad day.

i am a big who fan - its sad news indeed...

but i want to respond to a few comments...

i wouldn't say that who's next or quadrophenia are better any beatles album - but they are great albums... remeber - the who peaked in the early 70s - after the beatles broke up - and they had the advantage of following in the beatles footsteps.

quadrophenia is much under-rated - but tommy is over-rated. however, i do think that if i had to send a rock song on a space-ship to another planet (NASA chose chuck Berry) - i think My Generation best sums up the whole genre.

My favourite who song - "i can see for miles" - i could listen to it over and over again.

its been said of john entwhistle that he played bass as if he were playing lead guitar - and listening to songs like "the real me" its true - it really shows on a lot of the songs on quadrophenia - supposedly he would go into the studio and just jam while listening to the other tracks - and they often ended up using his improvised jams on the final tracks.

In my teen years, The Who was everything to me. I travelled to Buffalo and New York to see them, and of course caught all their shows here from the time I was 14 on....(not lately of course when they were really just a parody of themselves)

Entwistle wrote great rock tunes, with a humorous edge. Legal Matter was my favourite of his. Awesome base player.

I hope Daltrey and Townshend do not go on with the band.

The Who now have signed up a crackerjack session bass player and plan to proceed with their summer tour of North America. So should we Who fans still go? An argument for staying away is that the Rolling Stones have failed to deliver any new big hit singles since bassist Bill Wiman retired prior to the Voodoo Lounge tour in 1994.

I just got back from Vegas and have a client who is a casino host at the Hard Rock Hotel where The Who were to play and he was lining up tickets for me. It was a small venue (1200 seats) and tickets were $350. I called the hotel on the morning of to confirm start time so I'd know when to book dinner rez for me and my lady. I was shocked when I was told of the cancellation and reason why.

I'm a huge Who and Pete, in particular, fan. It seemed surreal.
I went to the hotel anyway that night and all they played were Who songs in the casino.

BTW the tour will be going on as planned. Too much planning and too many commitments to canceal. Business is business.

I heard that the tour will still go on.

I was a bit shocked to say the least.

Maybe they should bill themselves as Townsend and Daultry a la page and plant.

Somehow, calling themselves the Who cheapens my memories of my youth and the Who.

Say it ain't so joe

Lover of The Who bassist found dead:

[Entertainment News]: MEMPHIS, March 17
: The long-time lover of John Entwistle, late bass player with legendary rockers The Who, has been found dead in her Memphis home.

Memphis police said Lisa Pritchett-Johnson, who was believed to be in her 40s, died March 6, one month after she inherited millions from Entwistle's estate and just weeks after moving into the Tennessee mansion, the Times of London reported Thursday.

Pritchett-Johnson, who had lived with Entwistle for 13 years before his 2002 death during a cocaine-fuelled romp with a stripper, was understood to have either died from a cocaine overdose or an asthma attack.

Police said there was no indication of foul play and 1.6 grams of cocaine was found near the body.

A man arrested on unknown charges at the home was helping police in the investigation.

Pritchett-Johnson had a relationship with Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh prior to Entwistle.

Bassplayer

John Paul Jones would make a great fit for the "new" Who and he'd get tons of respect as a fill-in.

We must remember that Page/Plant almost went with the Moon/Entwislte line-up (they were unhappy with Pete at the time), and almost split up the Guess Who (bachman as a rythm player and cummings as the vocalist).
