I was trying to say that social media is a double edged sword. Same as the internet is a doubled edged sword where people can so easily utter threats without consequence. The only point I was trying to make is that it is all to easy to post something online without so much as a thought to the consequences. This is especially true when all you have is 140 characters. It's far too easy to post something in a hurry and not realize the consequences.

The old saying that if you don't have anything good to say, don't say it is more relevant now than ever. Her tweet will be forever linked to her no matter what. Internet is forever kids!

When I see tweets like this it also shows that young people cannot communicate ideas thoughtfully. It's just half-ideas that have no substance to them.
The problem isn't her writing something in a very public way that she can't shake. The problem is CRAZY MOTHERFUCKING NUTS THREATENING HER LIFE!!! Fuck me, but I thought this was kinda obvious and straightforward.

These "problems" you speak of were not helped by Rosie's or that other girls' comments; they just added fuel to the fire. Their comments made them look like ass-holes that will use a tragedy for their own gain. Doubly so when she quits Twitter for another social network. It takes little to no thought trying to link a tragedy to broader issues like mental illness, gun control, poverty, radicalism, religion, etc. These are complex issues that don't have a single root cause.

Vandalizing a campaign sign, building, calling people a "bitch", or making death death threats also takes no thought just like posting in ALL CAPS! Just messing with you there... ;)

I agree that it is not okay to do these things, but if you choose to be a self-righteous bully like Kevin O'Leary, Bill O'Reilly or even the Fords on social media then don't be surprised if people bully you back. Rosie is not new to the media game so she should know a lot better. Maybe the other girl is just naive, but she's made controversial remarks before.

The internet is the great equalizer in that way. You're free to say whatever garbage comes to mind, but so is everyone else.

You still seem to be labouring under some misconception that it's "all's fair in love and war" and talk is talk, it's all equal. Newsflash: saying an off-colour joke or expressing a political opinion is not the same as saying "I am going to kill you and your family". Ask a cop or judge if you are still unclear on the concept.

Yes, all is fair in love and war on the Internet because people are anonymous and behave in ways that they would not normally would. Just like arguing with a complete stranger about the meaning of an Internet message! I would include saying things like "I am going to kill you and your family" as just words until there is a credible threat to the person in question. Ask a cop or judge to investigate an Internet threat without any other evidence.

They do. Every day. Because shit like that has to be taken seriously. Because even if shit like that means nothing but yarbos blowing off steam 99 times out of 100, shit like that means that the other time someone is going to try to fucking kill someone else.

It appears "that dumb dyke" walked the walk.

The made one of the largest donations to an Indigogo fund to help the families of late soldiers Cirillo and Vincent. Her contribution was $6000.00 matched only by Prince Charles.
