You're right, you can grow up to live a normal life even if abused. MJ was not only abused, he spent his entire life in the public eye. There is nothing normal about his entire life, not just his childhood. It's also clear that he was never "normal". He had exceptional musical talent, something most people do not have. Perhaps there was a trade-off in that he was exceptionally deficient in other areas.

I don't think there is anything wrong with single parent adoption. There are single parents who raise their kids better than dual parent households. With MJ's money and large family, he can offer his kids a lifestyle that few parents, dual or single, in the world could offer.
