A former Toronto man has pleaded guilty to two counts of human trafficking in connection with forcing two young teens into prostitution.
Imani Nakpamgi, 25, also pleaded guilty today in a Brampton courtroom to using a counterfeit marker for false identification.
He'll be sentenced May 26 by Justice Hugh Atwood.
Police believe it's one of the first pleas to human trafficking since legislation was enacted in Canada in November 2005 for people placing others under their control and living off the avails of prostitution.
Prosecutor John Raftery told the court today that the accused was fully aware he was using two young teenagers, aged 14 and 15 at the time, to have sex for money.
"He was acting as their pimp," Raftery said.
Both girls had been reported missing, one by her family, the other by the Children's Aid Society.
Court heard that one of the girls, now 18, had worked for Nakpamgi for 26 months, starting in late 2007.
"She kept a log and said she had earned him about $360,000," Raftery said.
She went to police after she was robbed at gunpoint by a client, court heard today.
She had also been physically assaulted and threatened, Raftery said.
Raferty said the accused told the girl that he knew where her younger brother lived and, if she "ever got out of line," would kidnap him.
"She wanted out and was told she had to pay $50,000 for her release," Raftery said.
"There would also be a $100,000 exit fee.
"He used intimidation and threats" Raftery said.
Another girl, 14, worked for Nakpamgi for two months and earned about $65,000, Raftery said.
"She's carrying his child," Raftery said of the young teen, who had been reporting missing by the Children's Aid Society.
Raftery said Nakpamgi advertised the girls on the Internet in sexual poses. They also used fake names.
Sex was offered at $200 for 30 minutes and $300 for a full hour, Raftery told the court.
He said the older girl worked basically every day of the week for Nakpamgi.
He also drove them to and from motels and hotels in Mississauga and Brampton.
Nakpamgi was arrested Dec. 6 following a police sting when an undercover officer posed as a client for the younger girl, who had been advertised as being much older.
Police also found lurid photos of young girls in his possession when a search warrant was executed at his Niagara Falls residence, police said previously.
